re. DD's injury -blood in knickers

DD is 10. She fell off the trampoline a couple of hours ago and landed hard on her bum, one leg up in the air. (Net velcro gave way.)

Anyway, she cried and said it really hurt her bum (for about 30 seconds), then got up and said she was fine. I suggested she (and her friend who's sleeping over) went inside and played quietly for a bit before dinner.

About half an hour after the fall, she went to the loo and found blood in her knickers. Not loads but more than a drop. It wasn't bleeding any more -she wiped with some loo roll and there was nothing there but she said she didn't need to wee any more and still hasn't been.
I've looked and can't see any visible cuts or bruises so hard to know exactly where the blood came from.

She's absolutely fine in herself, says it doesn't hurt at all and has no tummy pain.
I decided to keep an eye on her, check her wee for blood when she goes and see how she is tomorrow.

However I'm a bit churned up and wondering if I should have taken her to a doctor to get checked out? My rational side says she's fine and the bleed was minor and stopped by itself but my anxious mum side won't calm down.

My dd fell on the edge of a plastic bowl and it caused a split in her labia, it bled a tiny bit but there was a lot of bruising over the next few days Sad.
She was fine though, gp said just to keep a eye on the tiny split and let her get on with it.

I doubt it -it coincided with the fall and that's where it hurt when she fell.
Plus she doesn't seem anywhere near puberty yet.

I thought hymen too. Is this anything to worry about (-rational me says no!)

when I was a child I stepped backwards by a swimming pool so one leg stayed on the side and the other fell in the water ie a forced box splits position. That tore my hymen and I bled a bit

I got kicked in the privates aged 7 and it broke my hymen - hurt like hell at the time but no long term side affects so I wouldn't worry too much.

Rapidly -she was doing split jumps before falling actually. Sounds like the same thing.

Firstly: you are her mum, of course you have every right to be worried!! So NO, YANBU to be concerned and to keep an eye on it.

Has she started menstruating? (I was 9, so not inconceivable) if she has, or is about to; is it possible that the jolt could have caused a false start?? no medical training, just a supposition
Was the knicker blood in the right place for that?

Alternatively, and this one is waaayyy out there could there be any truth in the old "hymen broke falling off a horse" line that used to get tossed around in days of old when the virgin bride thing was a thing?

Definitely keep an eye on her, and ask her to tell you straight away if she notices any pain or further bleeding.

As you say, she says she's fine and the bleed was minor, so no; YANBU at not taking her to the doctors.

Poor DDs bum!! Sad and poor worried mum Flowers

Ahh, I see many posters were more succinct than I and we seem to have gotten to the bottom of it no pun intended

I fell off the back of a bike and broke my hymen. I thought that's what had happened when I read your title. I'm sure she's fine. If the bleeding doesn't stop then perhaps take her to get checked out tomorrow but it doesn't sound urgent enough to see anyone tonight.

DD is pretty small and showing no signs of puberty so I really don't think it's period blood, although, yes, it was in the right place for that.
My eldest started last year at 13.5 and was already wearing a bra and had been having stomach cramps for at least 6 months before.

Geez you do realise that hymens are not fictitious and they do get broken during physical activity, right? It's not "out there" - it is, plainly, exactly what has happened here.

I automatically thought hymen..

I'm sure a doctor wouldn't mind putting your worries to ease if you are still a bit worried

Prob not period then, I think the consensus on hymen is correct.

Similar happened to my dd very recently, she fell down on a wooden fence, as in between her legs fell right down on it (ouch), she bled badly, I checked her legs as I thought it was her thighs (they were very badly bruised too) but when I took off her underwear to check a lot of blood gushed out, I went to emergency doc who took a look and sent her to a&e. She was checked by the gynae team and she has cut herself internally, the doc said that it could do with being stitched but felt it would be tramatic (dd was pretty battered and fairly frightened/traumatised as it was) and was happy enough it would heal itself, she was sore for a while.

Has it stopped bleeding?

Gosh, nocabbage, that sounds awful.
Yes, DD found the blood half an hour later and it was no longer bleeding then.
