to ask DP NOT to buy this car

It's a bit silly - DP wants an electric car and I'm all for it, for many reasons. However, the one that has now caught his eye is a Renault and has the same name as a woman he had an emotional affair with. I don't think I can stand to hear that name being repeated on a daily basis. WIBU to ask him not to buy it?

FlopIsMyParentingGuru Fri 06-May-16 17:42:59

YANBU
He lost his rights to claim you're being irrational when it's relevant to an emotional affair he had.

HappyGirlNow Fri 06-May-16 17:43:39

Zoe? No, YANBU, it'll wind you up every time you hear it...

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings Fri 06-May-16 17:43:49

YANBU at all, in no way, no matter what anyone says, you're really not. That's going to be horrendous to deal with on a daily basis.

Get a Leaf?

GeezAJammyPeece Fri 06-May-16 17:49:02

YABVVU.

Just because your fella shagged knew someone called Zoe, you don't want him to buy a really great car just because it has the same name?? confused

But, if it makes it any easier, look at it this way:

THIS Zoe has her name emblazoned on her are which is literally as wide as a car , so she's not really much of a threat is she?? grin

AyeAmarok Fri 06-May-16 17:49:44

YANBU at all. Unfortunately, that's the position he put you in when he had an affair, he can't now complain about the impact it's had on you.

AndNowItsSeven Fri 06-May-16 17:54:04

Surely you don't call your car by its name?

Oreosaretasty Fri 06-May-16 17:54:19

If you're so cut up about it you can't even get a car with her name on why are you with him???????

FoolMe Fri 06-May-16 17:54:51

Surely you'd just call it "the renault"? Or if you've got two you'd call it the red one

GeezAJammyPeece Fri 06-May-16 17:56:09

Also;
I don't think I can stand to hear that name being repeated on a daily basis. confusedhmm

Why would you be hearing it on a daily basis??

"Darling, I'm popping out to the shops, I'll just drive in my Renault Zoe"

"Have you seen the keys for my Renault Zoe?"

These questions would only be spoken thus if he had 25 cars and had to differentiate between them and if he did, I'm guessing they'd be big hungry Italian beasts that are the complete opposite of a wee electric thing

GeezAJammyPeece Fri 06-May-16 17:57:20

emblazoned on her ARSE not ARE

AriaTloak Fri 06-May-16 18:07:02

Er, just get the car & de-badge it so you don't have to see Zoe every day.

Or leave your husband cause he had an emotional affair and you're clearly still cut up about it & its stopping you doing normal things like purchasing cars...............

supersop60 Fri 06-May-16 18:08:04

DP does use words like - I'll take the Galaxy, where are the Galaxy keys? etc etc (he has a Ford Galaxy) or his motorbike - 'I'm going on the 'K' today.
He may not use it on a daily basis, but while he's doing his research, he keeps talking about ' the..... er........Renault'. It's the elephant in the room.

SavoyCabbage Fri 06-May-16 18:09:30

I couldn't be doing with that! I'd be eating a bar of galaxy a day if I heard 'Galaxy' all the time.

ProfessorPickles Fri 06-May-16 18:11:52

It does sound a bit daft when you think about it, but actually I really don't think you're being unreasonable.

I would HATE for people to go "ooh what car have you got?" "A Renault" "which one?" "A Charlotte"
I hate the name Charlotte forever because my teenaged boyfriend (I was also a teenager at the time) cheated on me with a Charlotte. So if it was my DH it would be even worse!

AyeAmarok Fri 06-May-16 18:15:19

We say "will we go in the Golf or the Audi", so it's perfectly normal to call the car the model name.

So no, I would not be happy about my DP buying a car with the name of his ex-affair partner.

YADNBU OP. The fucking LEAST he can do is get a different car. If he won't then he's a dick although he sounds like a dick regardless

ProfessorPickles Fri 06-May-16 18:16:39

Also, it is a 'thing' because he calls it the Renault and there's an elephant in the room too

ClashCityRocker Fri 06-May-16 18:30:47

Oh god an ex cheated on me with a girl called Rachel. I foolishly forgave him, but even hearing him say the name (we had a frlend called Rachel) used to set my teeth on edge.

Oddly he gave his first daughter the same name as me. I often wonder if his now wife knew it was an exes name - if so, she's much more chilled out than me.

Op you are being irrational, but absolutely not unreasonable.

GeezAJammyPeece Fri 06-May-16 18:32:22

You could own the situation.
Tell him he can buy the car but she will be forevermore referred to as The Bitch grin

Or just mispronounce it every time you say it? Zowwweeee
Off on a tangent here, but also regarding The Research.... Have you noticed how 'buying a car research' is always so mindnumbingly indepth in comparison to less important things like choosing schools or buying houses? hmmgrin

DameXanaduBramble Fri 06-May-16 18:37:30

It's no reason not to buy a Twingo, Funny name for a woman though.

ProfessorPickles Fri 06-May-16 18:37:38

Good point Geez with the buying a car research! Strange isn't it!

GeezAJammyPeece Fri 06-May-16 18:37:41

Oh, and Clash is right. I shouldn't have said you were being unreasonable because you do have a reasonable reason for feeling the way you do. Irrational? definitely; unreasonable? Probably not.

ClashCity, I had an ex who had a baby with the girl he cheated on me with. Child didn't get my name; but the mum DID get my engagement ring... classy

GeezAJammyPeece Fri 06-May-16 18:41:49

ProfessorPickles, after much research we bought a new to us car in mid to late March. The new new car research is still ongoing..... hmm

we were also looking at a Renault She-who-shall-not-be-named
