AIBU?

To order lukewarm coffee

I have just had my braces adjusted and my mouth as sore. My Ortho is open until 8pm.

I met a friend for coffee. Only problem is after an adjustment I can't drink anything hot or cold as it hurts. I asked for an extra milky lukewarm latte in Starbucks.

The person who served me gave me a Confused but his colleague who must have noticed the braces and said ah had an adjustment? No problem, I drank that too. And laughed (but in a good way).

The queue was fairly long so other people heard our conversation. The man behind me smiled when I apologised for so long to order so i wasnt so bad. My friend had ordered first.

My friend then spent most of our meeting going on how embarrassed she was and how embarrassing I was. Kind of ruined our met.

Would you have been embarrassed? Should I have been?

Why was your friend embarrassed?! She doesn't sound like a very good friend...

YANBU.

Your friend is weird - you did nothing wrong at all

Weird. Friends don't usually go on and on about how embarrassing they find you - family members maybe, but not friends.

You shouldn't be embarrassed!!! If I heard someone order that I would definitely be intrigued but would know that there was a reason behind it! You should feel embarrassed for your friend's immaturity!

God no we are in our 30s. We are friends from Uni so only see each other occasionally.

Apparently no one has ever ordered a lukewarm latte ever. Hmm

The whole USP of Starbucks is that you can have any drink, any way you want. Yanbu.

I might've squirmed a bit while at the counter if people gave you an odd look or there was a long queue. But I would recognise that it's my issue not yours. And there's no need for her to go on about it! And presumably she knew why you ordered what you did?

I don't get why your friend was embarrassed and felt the need to go on about it. But, wouldn't an ordinary latte have become lukewarm if you just waited a bit before you drank it? Confused

Not embarrassing at all (I hope) I do it all the time as I haven't got half an hour to sit looking at coffee until it's cool enough for me to drink. Although most of the time they fill the cup with boiling water and give me a separate thing of cold water so I have to drink some of the cold water, pour out some boiling coffee into the cold water jug then pour the cold coffee water back into the cup of coffee. Imagine how embarrassed your friend would be if you did that!

Moom no our Starbucks always serves nuclear temperature coffee, which once these braces are off I'll be able to enjoy.

YANBU. Your friend sounds like she was ott.

In Italy, a café con latte is never very hot IME so next time just tell them you want an authentic experience per favore Wink and be all cosmopolitan.

Coffee isn't supposed to be boiling hot anyway so don't know why you even had to request this.

If that's how Starbucks sell their coffee though, I can't see anything wrong with the request you made??

Find a new friend - this person doesn't give a toss about you!
