House/cat-sitting for friends for a couple of weeks while they are on holiday and we are between houses. WIBU to clean their rather grimy fridge and throw away some of the multitude of out of date jars? Found a few from 2013!

No way! I'd be offended if someone did this in my house.

Are u using the fridge? Then I'd clean it, but maybe not throw anything out....

I would if they have an issue at least you can replace with updated food jars

I's love that! grin having said that i also have to really fight the urge to tidy in other people's homes blush maybe not nest person to answer.

PattiLevin Sat 30-Apr-16 21:22:37

I'd love it if you came round my house and started cleaning stuff.

Oysterbabe Sat 30-Apr-16 21:22:47

That would be incredibly rude.

starfishmummy Sat 30-Apr-16 21:23:17

Hmmm. Cleaning it is probably ok, as you have to use it. Stick all their jars on one shelf and ignore them.

TooManyJars Sat 30-Apr-16 21:23:19

Yes using the fridge! There's not much space... I could give it a bit of a clean and get rid of anything with obvious mould?

dustarr73 Sat 30-Apr-16 21:24:08

Do you want my addressgrin

MiamiBound Sat 30-Apr-16 21:24:39

you cant

if its out of date from 2013 they would have thrown it away if they wanted to

might be outing.... but my sister cleaned out my mums fridge (replaced old with brand new).... she didnt talk to her for 3 months

Lilaclily Sat 30-Apr-16 21:25:50

If it's growing mould then yes I would

angryangryyoungwoman Sat 30-Apr-16 21:27:21

I have quite a few jars in the fridge that are around that date! Mostly mustards. I still use them though, I don't think I'd appreciate someone throwing them away but cleaning out the fridge is a nice gesture.
When I clean mine, I wipe down the jars and put them back in though!

wallywobbles Sat 30-Apr-16 21:29:41

Mouldy you can bin. Everything else probably not. I'd collect everything out of date into one space and say that's all out of date but your choice.

gingerboy1912 Sat 30-Apr-16 21:35:10

If you're house sitting and using the fridge and it's got mould on it meaning it's obviously not been used for yonks then yes throw it out.

Verticalvenetianblinds Sat 30-Apr-16 21:35:32

Bin the mouldy/contaminated and clean but be prepared for them not to be v pleased. I'd be thrilled if someone did it for me! That and cleaning behind things (oven, dishwasher etc) they are minging and I keep quite a tidy house!

GruffaloMoggy Sat 30-Apr-16 21:39:20

Oh god Id be itching to bleach clean it & chuck the lot. But no you cant. Sorry. Its a step too far!

ExitPursuedByABear Sat 30-Apr-16 21:39:53

Did my fridge today and had to steel myself to throw out jars well past their dates.

If they are mingers like me they probs won't even notice.

TooManyJars Sat 30-Apr-16 21:39:56

There are a lot of mustards! Who knew they could keep so long wink ok, will clean but not throw, or throw just a couple of really bad ones. I'm not a clean freak at all but I'm surprised at the state of friend's fridge tbh! They're very easy-going so might just laugh and says thanks if I did a deep clean but probably shouldn't risk it.

Topseyt Sat 30-Apr-16 21:40:37

Throw it out. I would bet that they have forgotten most of it is there anyway.

TooManyJars Sat 30-Apr-16 21:42:27

Oh and thinking of doing the oven tomorrow...
