To think my MIL shouldn't put DDs shoes on the highchair tray?

Went to pick DD up from MIL today. MIL went to get Dds shoes which were sat on top of the highchair tray! As far as I'm concerned shoes should go no where near a surface that food will be eaten off. Was so shocked I didn't say anything. AIBU to be repulsed by this and think she shouldn't be doing it?

Not the most hygienic thing in the world but unreasonable to call it shocking!

The average highchair user pits far more unsavoury things in their mouth frequently.

We used to give the highchair a quick wipe with an antibacterial cloth before it was used. Maybe your mother does too.

sadly upon a few occasions I have put my shoes on the table and on the bar countertop :(
I hang my head in shame....not. it's convenient and better than not remembering where the shoes are.
it's a flat surface like any other.

Well at the age dd2 was still using a high chair her favourite thing to do with shoes was pull them off and chew them.

High chair trays are notoriously minging and everyone gives them a once over before serving food. This is not a biggie. Or is it just another thread designed to show how dreadful mothers in law are?

Your MIL is good enough to look after your child and presumably managed to raise your husband without harm?

It's only dreadful if you are the sort of person who doesn't clean high chair trays.

I hope you never use high chairs in shops. I've seen nappies placed on the ones in our local sports centre.

You're easily shocked. The high tray will have had food and your child's dribble and snot on it, so long as it's wiped before use it's perfectly healthy.

Both my children used to delight in wriggling until they could get this feet up onto the tray. Sometimes they were wearing shoes.

I guess the question you need to ask yourself op is, are you so shocked and repulsed by this that you are prepared to take your dd with you wherever you went today in future? Would it be more or less convenient to take your presumably small child with you than, say, wiping a high chair down?
