AIBU?

To admit that there's a tiny bit of me that wants Trump to be president - just to see what on earth would happen?!

Please don't misunderstand me, I think he's the most ridiculous human being to walk the planet and for the most part, the thought of him becoming president terrifies me. I'm a laid back liberal leftie at heart and always will be.
There's just this tiny bit of me that just wonders what in the blue fuck would actually happen if he got in and that it would be the most fascinating social experiment ever conducted. What would and could they actually do to prevent the outright chaos and backlash that would follow? How long would he last before he realised the reality of what he's actually done and that he just wouldn't cope??
It would be mind blowing to watch the uproar from over on this side of the pond wouldn't it? The shit that hit the fan when Bush got in and when Palin gave it a good shot was intriguing enough and provided us with enough talking points to last a lifetime- let alone this bumbling, fumbling narcissistic buffoon.
Can you imagine....?!

He'd bomb Iran and start a world war. Or something like that.

He's actually very very stupid and thinks he's clever Hmm - which to me is the most dangerous of all.

So, entertaining for about 5 minutes and then utterly terrifying until he was offed.

YABU. This is real life. It's not the Donald Trump circus show. I dread to think what will happen
However I think you'll get your wish, because I do think he'll get in.

Its that sort of car crash morbid curiosity people get I think.

I am curious as to exactly what would happen if he did get in, but I hope he doesn't. I would rather settle for imagining what would happen if he gets in than to actually see it.

YABU, although I get where you are coming from.

We wouldn't be able to 'watch from this side of the pond' it would affect the whole world.

I remember something written that whoever the next president is, they will be unique.

Hilary - first woman

Sanders - oldest

Trump - last

Oh, YABU but me too - I also want to pull the trigger on the Brexit vote. I'm all for interesting times. Even if Trump gets in, I doubt anything major will happen, Obama has found it hard to do anything he really wanted to, Trump would be in the same position.

I do know what you mean. The thing is that the American political system is built on checks and balances ie not putting too much power in the hands of one individual or party. He might want to do all sorts of crazy things but it's unlikely he'd be able to.

I would only want this if I could watch from somewhere safe. Like another planet.

Trump + Putin = very dangerous imo

The rest of the world would find out - very quickly - what few powers the US president really has.

Viewers of "House of Cards", or followers of US politics would have a head start on that one.

Another part of me wonders if it is a massive ruse - that he's pulling a fast one to get elected and then will suddenly turn sane once he's in the Whitehouse.

Hmm as in the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" ?

Actually the older I get, the more interest I can handle. Maybe better to go out in a blaze of glory, than a aged whimper ?

Yes Lurking, exactly like the Chinese curse. It's probably because my life is so dull that I live vicariously through my interest in politics and world events.

From memory, the US president is commander in chief of the armed forces (who are still bound by US law), can sign foreign treaties (which congress has to ratify) and has a casting vote in certain situations. They cannot make nor introduce laws, and their requirement to sign new laws into power can be negated if enough of congress vote together (like impeachment).

The US constitution (nicked in a large part from England ....) is specifically designed to limit the powers of each part of government. The founding fathers were very aware of how tyranny begins (bearing in mind they thought George III was a tyrant) and tried their damnedest to build it out of the US political system.

If dull is people living in peace, respect, and helping one another, I'd rather be dull.

YANBU - Of course he couldn't do half the mad things he's been promising - and I agree on Brexit.

I can't stand Trump but we do need a shake up.

He's actually very very stupid and thinks he's clever Hmm

Or he's an average man who says stupid things to draw attention to himself.

I don't think he is so stupid he believes half the stuff he says.

I wonder if people said the same thing when Adolf Hitler's popularity was rising before he became the Fuhrer?

God no. If he wins I'm joining the preppers. He's a global liability.

It's worth remembering that Adolf Hitler was a the leader of a minority party in coalition (and that he, and the Nazi cabal already had a game plan to snatch power in such an event). It's not like a whole load of Germans actually voted for him (most thought he was a joke).

Donald Trump is all kinds of awful but he is not stupid. You don't get where he is by being stupid. Every single word on his campaign trail will have a purpose. He's horrifying but what's even more horrifying is the millions of Americans who lap him up. It's a bloody good thing most of them don't have passports.

He is stupid, mind bogglingly so.

He keeps going on about all these successful businesses he owns - meat, wine, a magazine etc. A cursory look by The Daily Show/Last week tonight showed that he either doesnt own them or they're bankrupt/in chapter 11/failed businesses

He's a failed businessmen who keeps lying at rallies by saying how successful he is. He actually keeps saying "I'm really smart, I'm so incredibly smart... I have a great business degree and all these successful businesses"

Anyone who actually gives speeches talking about how smart they are is as dim as mince. No one with half a brain does that

I know what you mean OP, I've wondered what would happen too. I think he'd either be assassinated within a month, or America would wake up to the truth that the emptiest vessel makes the loudest noise. Not too sure the lesson would stick, though.)

I know what you mean. If the US elect him they deserve all they get their way.
They should have had a reality check with W.

Anyway, unfortunately it's not possible to insulate the US in plastic bubbles so, I'd rather he wasn't elected.
