Or not?

And what are your reasons? smile

Yes. I think it helps to bind the UK together. It also generates a huge amount of revenue.

I also love the history and tradition behind it.

I wouldn't vote ......if we didn't have a head of state by monachy we would have one of those presidents and I'm not keen on either idea tbh

I would keep them. I don't follow or like them but I agree with Bagatelle's reasons.

Littleallovertheshop Thu 21-Apr-16 19:04:38

Yes, id keep them. However, as soon as Charles is on the throne I won't be so sure.

Lemonsole Thu 21-Apr-16 19:05:14

I'd vote to get rid. ASAP.

Blink1982 Thu 21-Apr-16 19:05:36

I'd keep them.

I sometimes think we'd be better off if they had the power instead of the tossers we have now. grin

I would keep them. I know that some of them seem a total waste of space, but it's like the House of Lords with hereditary peers, it's the sense of continuity. Plus it dilutes the effect of the prime minister, and with some of them that's a really good thing. grin

No, but I wouldn't want them beheaded either.

I'd keep them. Everywhere has some kind of figurehead so getting rid of the monarchy would just open a vacancy for A N Other.

Yes and they add to the gaiety of the nation.

Fourormore Thu 21-Apr-16 19:09:14

I'd keep them.

RainbowPickle Thu 21-Apr-16 19:10:16

I'd keep them - I think we get more from tourism (the novelty of being associated with royalty, tradition and ceremony ) than we pay out

expatinscotland Thu 21-Apr-16 19:10:33

Get rid. Gaiety? William is about as gay/cheerful as a box of rocks.

jay55 Thu 21-Apr-16 19:10:59

Depends on the alternative.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Thu 21-Apr-16 19:11:45

Define "keep"?

I don't think we should grind them up for pet food if that's what you mean?

I also don't think they should be head of church or head of parliament IYSWIM. The NT or someone could takeover all of their Estates, allowing them a small suite of rooms?

Seeing the Queen, with a gold and diamond crown, sitting on a throne wearing fur and giving a speech about austerity was really it for me.

I'm sure mostly they're ok people if a little warped by experience.

But they basically live off state benefits.

'Keep the monarchy' as in, continue to have a King and Queen.

Had I meant 'grind them up for pet food' that would be 'kill the monarchy', wouldn't it?

MidnightAura Thu 21-Apr-16 19:15:18

I would vote to get rid.

absolutelynotfabulous Thu 21-Apr-16 19:17:35

Get rid once the Queen has gone. Prince Charles is a joke, and Wills wouldn't be able to "bear the responsibility of duty"hmm.

YourLeftElbow Thu 21-Apr-16 19:18:32

Get rid. I don't think they help bind us together at all.

AvaLeStrange Thu 21-Apr-16 19:19:52

In theory no.

In practice if it meant the monarch being replaced by anything like any of the assorted cockwombles that would probably be in the running at the moment, I'd have to abstain.
