To think this is bloody rude or am I just a boring cow?

Out for dinner today and a cereal offender asked me a question and and literally seconds in to my reply stops eye contact and starts listening to another conversation at the table! She has done it on so many occasions. Nobody else does it to me. Our relationship isn't such that I can pull her on it each time so occasionally I have said sorry am I going on a bit... She just looks confused on each occasion as if we had never had the previous conversation. I think it's so rude. 😡

Surely breakfast, not dinner? grin

TheNaze73 Sun 17-Apr-16 23:16:18

No, rude. I had an ex friend like that, would drop you for better offers of nights out & thought the whole world evolved around her. Just cut her out in the end.

Gide Sun 17-Apr-16 23:17:10

When she asks, tell her you can't be bothered to tell her as she can't be bothered to listen to more than 10 seconds. What a rude mare!

YANBU.

I would certainly be a bit Frostie with someone like that...

Maybe you should tell her, "Cheerio(s)!" and go and talk to someone who actually wants to listen!

MeadowHay Sun 17-Apr-16 23:18:47

No YANBU to think it's generally rude and to be annoyed by it.

This part may completely not be relevant at all, but: I have Asperger's and as a result I process sensory information differently from other people, and by differently I mean it's harder. In a place like a busy restaurant, I can see so many things going on at once, hear so many noises at once (my hearing is hypersensitive) and it can be a real struggle to stay focused. I do this sometimes, in fact I probably do it far more than I actually realise I do it. That doesn't mean the other party doesn't have the right to feel annoyed - DH gets annoyed/frustrated about it too sometimes. But he does try to be patient, just as I try my best to focus, give and take really. Anyway just something to bear in mind.

She only likes conversations that are AllBran New

NorksAreMessy Sun 17-Apr-16 23:20:07

Or perhaps she is a FrootLoop

SaucyJack Sun 17-Apr-16 23:20:07

She sounds a bit corn flakey.

booitsme Sun 17-Apr-16 23:20:44

Oh god the cereal jokes aren't going to stop are they! 😁

FuckSanta Sun 17-Apr-16 23:21:37

Tell your corn flakey friend that it's not n--r--ice krispie to do that and that you're shredded wheat by the experience. You'll be in touch when you're ready brek

amysmummy12345 Sun 17-Apr-16 23:22:46

ClopySow Sun 17-Apr-16 23:36:55

Wheat a bitch

booitsme Sun 17-Apr-16 23:38:02

MeadowHay That's interesting thanks for sharing. I do get really angry and feel embarrassed when she does it but I also feel that she is so drawn to the other conversation (it was her two sons) she almost can't stop herself, it feels like she's worried she's missing something! To drip feed (no more cereal jokes please I beg you 😆) it's my MIL and she also stares at people's fat bits during a conversation and it's also as if she can't help it. She stares at my ample thighs and even my dad (who notices nothing) said he feels very uncomfortable as she stares at his rather large belly whenever he meets her. I'm really selling us as a family - I'm illiterate with massive thighs and my dad is slow on the uptake with a belly bigger than Santa!

GrumpyMcGrumpFace Sun 17-Apr-16 23:38:35

I think you're grape nut to tell her wheat a total bix she is, or at best a bit of a crunchy nutter.

She is rude, that's bad behaviour from a supposed grown up.
