To just want a cup of tea

So I know I probably am BU.

But whenever I go to a party, or family event or celebration. I'll get to about two hours in, and the thought hits 'I just want a cup of tea.'

Is this just me? I mean there'll be wine, beer and all sort of drink options and I'll be stood there just wanting a cup of tea, and it vaguely rankles that there isn't the option. Dh is the same, and theres always a conversation about how we want tea whenever we're at a party.

It happened again tonight, great party, dancing, lovely people and we're stood looking at the drinks feeling a twinge of disapointment that there isn't a tea pot.

To be honest, I'm just wondering if anyone else does this.

I am renowned among family and friends for always wanting tea at parties/weddings/social gatherings where alcohol is more normal. I often ask if I can make myself one if it isn't obviously available, no one has been offended yet!

I was very disappointed at our work Xmas party (in a freezing cold bloody barn ) that there was only cold drinks to buy at the bar. And I was 3 months pregnant.
Got pissed off and went home for a brew in the warmth

If out and about I'll have a soft drink to break up the drinking of alcohol.

My friend knows me well though. If we are having drinks at hers she'll go and make me a coffee when others have their second or third drink.

I often have a cup of tea on bawdy drinks nights!

I remember back in the day of being 24 hour party people...we'd move on to someone's flat for a party after being at a club and while everyone else would keep drinking, I'd make myself a cup of tea.

Yanbu. I'm the same. Luckily I'm 40 now so confident enough to do/have as I please, but it's hard if you're say 22 asking for a cuppa.

I'm with you totally! Or coffee, I'm easily pleased
In majorca last year we used to go to a little bar in the evening,
DH had a pint or 5 and I had a lovely coffee (with a lovely free wafer)

love that would have pissed me off as well. Who serves cold drinks in a barn, that's tea territory for sure!

To be honest, if it's a family thing I do often ask or just help myself. But tonight I didn't as two dc's were wrecked so we left early. Solved the problem, kettle was on within minutes of being home.

I'm the same. My friend's DH is a builder and he constantly takes the muck out of me for being worse than the chaps on his team. There can be any sort of wine, beer, vodka....and I'll always be the one asking for tea. There's nothing to beat it. YANBU!

Maybe you need to rethink attending a party if it is not your style?

I don't want to sound mean but it is 10pm on a Saturday night and you and your dh have left already for a cup of tea while your friends are dancing and having fun.

If it was my home I would expect anyone I know to grab whatever they want including tea and I wouldn't bat an eye but you have left?

Yanbu. Im not really a drinker now and tea is my tipple of choice most days. I've found myself ordering a pot of tea with a meal before now.

MThouse Whilst it was a party, it was more of a family centred one rather than one focused soley on adults. We didn't leave just to have a cup of tea, we had our dc's with us (as did many others there, it was that type of party) and they were just wrecked so we came home to put them to bed. They're under five, so did well to last as long as they did.

Me too! It makes my family laugh but it's what I like. When I was hurt on holiday recently, after the main drama was over, my teenage son got me seated on a bench and said "I'll just get you a cup of tea then" and it did me the power of good. I've had tea with a meal out too Mog!
