AIBU?

...to want a tumble dryer rather than a dishwasher?

Moving house soon and new house has space for one or the other. We currently just have tumble dryer.

DH wants dishwasher. He is chief washer upper.

I want to stay with tumble dryer. I am chief launderer.

The thought of doing towels and bedding without a tumble dryer in winter makes me want to cry.

So AIBU to want to stick with tumble dryer?

I'd take a tumbler over a dishwasher any day.

Can you stack them and have both? Put a tumble dryer in the garage?

Tumbler. Every time.

As an alternative, I know there's a general MN hatred for combined washer-dryers, and I completely agree that a separate tumbler is better if you've got the space, but I've had two washer-dryers and one of them was great. The other was a bit dogged when it came to letting you have your drying back - wouldn't let me open the door without a bit of a pantomime - but it might be worth considering.

Don't have a dishwasher and we are a family of 5 - hate them! I would definitely take the tumble dryer.

Any chance the tumble dryer could go in the shed or garage? If only one I'd go dishwasher

Tumble drier every time for me too but perhaps agree to share the washing up?

Dryer every time. Any chance of fitting a slimline dishwasher in? Or throwing away lots of stuff and freeing up some space.

Our dishwasher is on twice a day. If something went wrong, I would rather it be the tumble dryer. Losing dishwasher would be a disaster for us.

We were in same boat. We got a washer dryer and dishwasher. Love them both!

Towels take ages to dry but bedding is great. Key is to get the biggest drum possible so gives room to dry properly. There are good ones out there.

No garage and shed is a plastic thing in the garden with no power. How much can you really fit in a slimline dishwasher?

We lived without either for a long time until kind ILs bought us a dishwasher. It made such a huge difference!

Would be nice to have a tumble drier but can't see that it would make as much of an improvement as the dishwasher.

I would choose a washer drier + dishwasher personally.

Same for us and we have washer dryer and dishwasher. It's not as good as seperate washer and dryer. The wash bit is similar but the dryer takes much longer and they are more prone to faults etc. But saves having wet fusty towels hanging everywhere all winter. Our house is small and no garage so I'd hate to have washing hanging all over the house. I don't use the dryer bit in summer.

I always say the tumble dryer was the second best thing I ever bought. The dishwasher was the first!!

My sis has a slimline but there's just the two of them. Oh some friends have one too and there's three of them. If you can fit one in - go for it.

I'd keep the dryer in the kitchen / utility if you can cos a condensing one chucks out loads of lovely heat and I'd rather hear the kitchen than a shed.

We have a slimline dishwasher and washer dryer.

Slimline works for us, you can fit in a lot which surprised us. And slimline is better than none at all in my opinion.

When looking for combo washer/dryer, generally there are complaints about the dryer, and of course a separate tumble is better. But some type of drier better than none at all.

We have a 9kg wash and 6kg dry. There are bigger ones, but they run towards the 1K mark!

We have a wash and dry in 45 min facility, great for shirts/light items!

Dishwasher. I don't have a tumble dryer and manage fine ( you just need lots of sheets).

I have both - however my dishwasher has been broken for the best part of a year and I haven't missed it. I always ended up doing the washing up after getting things out the dishwasher because I never could trust things were actually 'clean'. Silly I know.
But I can't imagine life without my tumble dryer - I'm constantly doing laundry so unless it's really nice outside its on pretty much constantly.

With 3dc I'd take a tumble dryer anyday of the week!

When we just had 1 dc, we had a slimline dishwasher and it was fab.

Speaking from experience…id give up the dishwasher in a heartbeat for a tumble dryer.

We have a combo washer/dryer and when we did up the utitiky room we had space for one or other.
DP fought and won on having a dishwasher.

As there's only 2 of us it gets used about twice a week. We have a not use enough/ not have enough crockery. To have a full load we'd have to run out of plates etc.

We both excerise regularly so usually shower twice a day so there's always washing drying to be done. And in this weather…we've had snow today …everything is covered in mud. I don't like running the dryer if we're not at home so being able to wash & dry at same time would be great.

I've lived in a house without a tumble dryer and I've lived in a house without a dishwasher. I would infinitely prefer to have a tumble dryer. In our house without one, the whole place seemed to be permanently draped with damp clothing all winter. Even with airers, the washing took up a lot of space. And we then had to deal with the resulting condensation meaning we had to purchase a dehumidifier and have it on pretty much 24/7.

Get a tumble dryer!

We had a slimline for 3 people. We extended and now have a full size one, which at times I struggle to fill before smelling so all in all a slimline surprisingly wasn't that bad. It could be a good compromise and would be great if you were both happy.

Well you don't need to keep a tumble in the kitchen, it just needs somewhere to vent it any room would do.

I would much rather have a dishwasher! We have space for a tumbler but haven't felt the need yet (2 small children). We do seem to have a condensation proof house though.

You're going to have to flip a coin!!

We don't have either but I think it would be a dryer for me.

Compared to a lot of folks I hardly wash up it seems.

Usually just once a day after lunch.
