To wish supermarket staff were a bit more glamorous.

Obviously this is lighthearted - but strolling through Tesco earlier I thought how much nicer it would be if the staff had a touch of glamour about them - supermarket shopping is such a boring drudge isn't it, & I for one would be so cheered up if the staff were a bit more 'Hollywood' - obviously it doesn't have to be the full Audrey Hepburn or James Bond - but maybe a step up from dowdy overalls.

Anyone else?

hmm

I would love to see tesco staff in glam uniforms, a bit like flight attendants grin

HoneyDragon Fri 15-Apr-16 14:21:13

grin like tailored flight attendant type out fits with a jaunty neck tie?

I'd would have loved that when I worked at Tesco

HermioneJeanGranger Fri 15-Apr-16 14:22:40

It's hard to be glamorous in itchy, cheap polyester grin

HoneyDragon Fri 15-Apr-16 14:22:51

Dezza.... Wouldn't you prefer an out fit that wasn't made in one size fits no one?

EddieStobbart Fri 15-Apr-16 14:23:12

Yes, I think this is a common view held by the masses. A bit of Pan-am glamorous with weight and height limits would go a long way towards enhancing the whole retail experience. Have you thought about writing to the head office of your preferred store?

MartinaJ Fri 15-Apr-16 14:23:22

I wish Tesco would ask Karl Lagerfeld to provide a new uniform design.

Oh Surferjet. You are from another time though aren't you!

Ladies cannot go in pubs either can they?

To be honest I think it's a bit patrionosing to expect people on minimum wage to pretend they're in a Hollywood The Golden Area while they stack shelves.

MadHattersWineParty Fri 15-Apr-16 14:25:13

*Era. FFS auto correct!

SurferJet Fri 15-Apr-16 14:27:58

MadHattersWineParty This is a rare trip down to earth for me - but seriously, why not? - & of course I wouldn't expect the staff to pay for the uniforms. The company pays.

KeepOnPlodding Fri 15-Apr-16 14:28:19

Perhaps they should go 'retro'?

BaskingTrout Fri 15-Apr-16 14:29:45

i have worked in many a supermarket and high street shop. I would happily settle for a uniform that doesn't cause electric shocks when you touch the shelves.

BadgersNadgers Fri 15-Apr-16 14:30:04

So do I. I'm a midday supervisor in a primary school, I'd love a big fur coat for playground duty and Audrey Hepburn style marigolds for wiping tables. The kids would love it too.

TheWernethWife Fri 15-Apr-16 14:33:14

There is one woman in my local Tesco who chews gum all the time - so bloody unprofessional - seen her in the store and on the checkout

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone Fri 15-Apr-16 14:35:18

Sod off! It's a more physical job than you realise moving boxes and stock around, and long hours on your feet, you just want something comfortable and hard wearing

MadHattersWineParty Fri 15-Apr-16 14:35:54

I don't know, I'd be really just be very grateful if the stock replenishers in my little local tesco could stretch to a daily shower and deodorant to be honest. Maybe the polyester uniforms don't help.

MadHattersWineParty Fri 15-Apr-16 14:38:11

Ugh that sounded far more bitchy than I wanted it to. Sorry. But I don't know about glamorous- what would be the point? Clean and comfortable should be enough.

Just not chewing would do for me. Ugh.

IrianofWay Fri 15-Apr-16 14:40:02

Bollocks to that! Shopping is not fun. Being made to feel inadequate when I turn up in sweaty running gear to pick up some bread would NOT make it any better.

Having worked in a superrmarket and wearing the gorgeous uniform of blue blouse with fruit on and a very fetching navy skirt I can say that we looked a lot more glam than some of the customers. I mean the woman who was standing anxiously ay 7.55 am every morning waiting for the clock to chime 8 so she could pay for her daily rations of booze was very well turned out in puke stained hoodie and piss stained trackies
The man who was her +1 also well turned out, stinking of urine last nights booze and clothes UGH.
Someone's precious princess who threw bottles of red wine at staff because she had no id that was another example of catwalk glam.
No the staff are dressed for the job, albeit in polyester rubbish. The uniform has to be puke proof and alcohol proof and look stunning amongst the general public. A decent tango orange fleece is a garment to behold on a cold dark morning

So glad that was a student job
