AIBU?

To envy the joy that football fans feel? (For example) I don't think I feel 'ecstatic' about anything

Just watched DH absolutely beside himself because his football team won some 'important' match.

My feeling - envy. Envy that he and all the fans on the TV seemed so utterly consumed with joy.

I honestly don't think I ever feel like this. I actually googled once to see if I had inadequate dopamine receptors Confused.

AIBU to feel envious (not of the football...just the joy)? What can I do to bring more joy to my life? What brings you joy?

(Unfortunately, we're having fertility issues and not managed to have children to date, so if your answers could maybe avoid things involving finding joy in your kids just to humour me that would be great - or I might start to feel really depressed!).

Thanks Derek I think that's the kind of joy I'm going to have most success trying to achieve. I do like a good pair of converse. Smile

The joy I feel from football is just the best, but don't forget the crushing feeling when things don't go so well!

I am a football supporter. Don't go so much since had kids but am heavily invested in my home town club. Winning an important game snd celebrating with other fans is truly marvellous. So joyous. Go to a game and see if you're smitten.

It was a very important match Grin

Look for little things. It sounds poncy, but anything beautiful gives me a little lift. Flowers growing at the side of the road, a house with a gorgeous tiled porch, a cafe with a proper French or Italian feel to it. I find being around nice places makes me feel better about the world. Even if I can't afford to go in them, or buy anything.

Orda this is true. I have certainly seen him slumped / crumpled on the edge of the sofa enough times too!

It's not exactly joy though it's drama/excitement too - I find it helps if something has been shit and then gets better - eg football, they are happy because they know what losing is like. If they only ever won they wouldn't be ecstatic.

You might just be a bit bored.

Conceding a last minute goal in a crucial game, relegation, losing a cup final...... Oh the despair.

I don't get football at all, but I do get joy from music.

Listening to favourites can give me goosbumps but actually seeing one of my favourite bands live and being part of creating an atmosphere - nothing else quite feels like that!

X posted a lot sorry!

Also - doing stuff in a group is infectious, so if you like say knitting, join a knitting group and knit something really hard which goes wrong a few times, then when it's done you'll feel joy.

I didn't watch it (not a Liverpool fan) but heard DS screaming from the other room.

I don't follow so closely these days, but ore DCs I was a season ticket holder for my local team and I have never experienced emotions like it. There were two seasons in the 90s when we travelled hundreds of miles to away games needing to win in order to stay up and in ond case for other results to go our way too, both times those dreams came true and I have honestly never been so ecstatic/elated in my life.

On the other hand, I've stood there soaked to the skin in January watching them get crushed by lower league opposition in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, which is the other extreme.

I felt joy when I bought various types of storage, including stackable and over the door shelving, for a small larder that I have.

I've got a limited income, so when I save and go somewhere that I've wanted to go, for a while.

Managing to grow and keep my nails a decent length.

Sorry, got into football mode there. At this time of year nothing lifts my spirits more than nature, primroses, violets, insects and birds, all busy with spring fever.

Yes...I can see it's very yin and yan. But I guess extremes are good? Or maybe not....interesting question. I don't tend to feel ecstatic with things I feel I should like getting a job I really wanted, passing exams (going back a bit now). Maybe finding joy in the little things is the key.

Or start paying attention when Liverpool are on? Grin

What about fundraising for a charity you really believe in?

Running a marathon?

Sponsoring a child abroad?

( personally don't get the joy that men get from ball games, it's just a bunch of blokes they don't know running around a field and kicking a lump of pigskin in a particular direction, but each to their own I guess...)

I think it's about finding something that really matters to you, whatever that is.
