AIBU?

ITo find it more worrying that Jeremy Corbyn can't find his tax return than David Cameron being gifted 200,000?

Or is it just me?

Interesting development. Corbyn should be able to find it, or at least call it up online.

I couldn't care less about Cameron being gifted £200,000 out of his father's estate by his mother. Many families use this method to minimise or eliminate IHT. Nobody's business but their own.

Oh for goodness sake.

Doesn't surprise me, no judging here. I last had a good sort out and filing session 3 years ago.

Depends whether he did it online or paper. Online there should be no problem. Not sure with paper - presumably HMRC will have a copy

Interesting.

They're not hard to find surely.

YABU for using 'gifted'.

If he's anything like my DP he probably files it in 'the paperwork cupboard' which involves opening a door and lobbing it in randomly with all the other crap in said cupboard. drives me insane

I haven't heard the news for several days and I'm just going to have a wander round the internet now to see what's been happening in the world.

Sorry, can someone link the story, I have had a look on google news, but cant see it.

Oh fgs. He has said he will publish it. Who cares if it is today, tomorrow or Friday?

Meanwhile has Gideon published his yet? Should be interesting reading.

I can't see it either and yes, a link would be helpful please.

I don't care about Cameron getting this money from his mother AT ALL and I am practically a Marxist Grin. So many families do this, sooo many. Some parents do it simply to see their children enjoying it whilst they're still alive even. It's very commonplace.

Anyway I'm more interested in Gideon's too.

Bugger off with the criticism for using "gifted".

Gift is not simply a noun. Look it up in the Oxford or Collins Dictionaries. It is also a verb and not incorrect.

Haven't seen this story either. I have a business so have an accountant, so he'd always have copies of my tax returns. My husband doesn't have an accountant, he has an employed PAYE job, and his tax return is very dull and simple and takes him all of about 10 minutes to do online. I bet he doesn't keep a copy. I reckon its a marker of someone with very dull tax affairs. Agree with those above who reckon Osbourne's will be more interesting (plus a lot of Tory grandees!).

Mr Corbyn committed last week to publishing his own tax return but he has been unable to find it and has requested a copy from HMRC, BBC assistant political editor Norman Smith said.

The link is the full article and the bit in italics is the bit about Jeremy Corbyn's tax return. It does sound more scatterbrained than deceitful.

Nope I won't bugger off with my 'gifted' criticism. Awful marketeer speak. What's wrong with bloody old 'gave'?

His mother gave him £200,000. Lucky boy.

Catweazle was all to quick to critisise. Very convenient to have lost it. I'm highly suspicious.

Cameron hasn't published his tax returns though.

He has paid an accountant (note - not even his own accountant - or if it is he hasn't said) to publish an excel spreadsheet and some notes, begging the question - why didn't he publish his actual tax statement?

I'm with you on 'gifted', Crystal.

I don't know where my tax return is either. Not because I'm a tax avoiding shitbag but because I have other stuff to do.

He's requested a copy. Perhaps people can just wait a few days instead of making headlines out of nothing.

I think 'gifted' is the term tax accountants use for this type of transaction.

I thought Corbyn cam across quite weasley on Andrew Marr with his ' if there is tax due of course Cameron should pay it'. No-one seems to think there is tax due.

FFS - I see the vultures are out - HMRC will be able to provide him with a copy, I'm sure that will satisfy. I'm not rich enough to have an Accountant but pissed off that I'm taxed on my pension when bloody millionaires can shift money around.
