Bought a leg of lamb the other week, brought it home and bunged it in the freezer.

got it out to have for dinner yesterday. Opened up the pack and it was HONKING.
really unpleasant smell.
However label on the pack said there would be a smell and it would fade so gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Seasoned it and cooked it.

took it out of the oven and it was still a bit smelly-tasted it and it was rank.

everything else was ready-potatoes, veg etc

dh had to run out and buy chicken breast from tesco express and we had to cut it up and flash fry it. everything was past it's best by then. chicken breast bought at 8pm from local store = £10!!!!

tweeted asda today-no response
phoned them to be told to take the stinky bloody wrapper out of the bin and take into store for a refund. Asked about the cost of the chicken i had to buy to replace the lamb and the guy said 'well you ate it didn't you?'

never again asda- never again.Angry

To be fair, that can happen with any supermarket.

I've known it happen with Ocado too.

Asda are a company I avoid because of their ghost payment thing though.

'well you ate it didn't you?'

He actually said those exact words?

Put a complaint in writing about his response. Its unprofessional at best. They presumably record their calls so will be able to confirm he said it.

Had one from there yesterday, it was dreadful.

ASDA is the mouth of hell.

I've never understood why anyone goes there.

This happened to me with some mince from ASDA many years ago, I had bought it, took it home, opened it straight away to cook and it hummed! Took it straight back (lived 5 mins away) they suggested I had kept it out of the fridge too long, the time on my receipt was 20 mins previous. Eventually got a refund but didn't eat mince for years.
The smell is usually a kind of gassy smell that goes after 30 seconds not one that stays for ages.
I once had a pack of meat which had burst open in the bag of shopping from ocado, they asked what else was in the bag and refunded the whole lot!

We've just had problems with asda too! Ordered garden furniture online, took hours to build only to then realise the cushions were filthy (yes should have checked before building the furniture but didn't think!)

Tweeted and phoned to ask for an exchange of cushions - not possible, you need to dismantle the furniture, wait in for us to collect it, we'll then exchange and re-deliver another set of furniture up to 28 days from then. Shocking customer service, no interest to attempt to help, just to go through their protocol.

We're now refusing to buy anything from there Angry

I had a similar thing happen with a chicken from Asda.Eventually got a refund.
About a week later I apparently knocked a woman's trolley and thought I was going to be punched - never been back.

In our case it was an emergency. Wouldn't normally give them my money for food. George is brilliant though.

I was very disappointed once by an Asda avocado.

I complained to Asda years ago about a very rude member of staff, and whilst I got an apology from the person on the phone, they told me they would speak to the member of staff for me, although I'm not sure how as I didn't know the person's name! I shop there when I'm desperate, and I like their clothes and toys, but it is the most awful shopping experience and I would rather pay more to go elsewhere!

I don't understand why you'd expect them to refund you the cost of the chicken too Confused

Sounds like they are happy to refund the lamb. Don't understand the issue here.

'well you ate it didn't you?'

Is this a reimagining of Fawlty Towers ?

I think those prawns might be a bit off.

Oh, I don't think so.

- They do taste rather funny.

  • No one else has complained.

Well, I really do think they're off.

But you've eaten half of them.

- Well, I didn't notice at the start.

  • You didn't notice at the start?

Well, it was the sauce. I wasn't sure.

So you ate half to make sure?

My wife thinks they're off.

Did you want another first course?

No, thank you.

  • Are you sure?

No, really. Just the main - We'll just cancel it.

Deduct it from the bill, is that what you mean?

As it's inedible.^

Only half of it is inedible, apparently.

Well, deduct half now, and if my wife brings the other half up during the night, we'll claim the balance in the morning.

I had the same problem- with m&s food & Aldi. Both dealt with it badly (especially m&s m, who no longer get my custom). It can happen in any supermarket. I try & use farm shops & butchers now.
YANBU to be upset at their poor customer service.
YABU to expect to be refunded for the chicken.

You want them to refund you for the chicken you bought in Tesco to replace the Asda lamb?

Why would they do that?

Report
DropYourSword · 11/04/2016 11:30

the guy said 'well you ate it didn't you?'

People do realise this was in relation to the chicken not the lamb, don't they?

As someone else said, you can say it about any supermarket.

I bought some sausages from Asda in a 3 for £10 deal. Had them about 4 days in the fridge, went to eat them and realised that they were out of date, but would have been out of date when I bought them aswell. I'd thrown out the receipt so had no evidence. I phoned them up (expecting nothing to do be done about it) and they said that they have a policy of goodwill on food whether there is a receipt or not and to take it in. I did and they gave me a full refund, even though I told them I'd got them as part of a 3 for £10. I got £5 back. Very pleased.

Sainsbury however is another story... But I still shop there because it's close and their fruit and veg are good.

Perhaps because she had to pay over the odds (tesco express prices) for meat she didn't want because the lamb was off?

Shops refund for items you bought from them.
