AIBU?

To not want football fans to stay...

My DH's nephew's football team was promoted and this means that they have two away matches near to where we live. Nephew has just asked DH if he and 4 friends can stay overnight at our house when they travel to one of these matches. DH has agreed and I am not happy. We live in a small semi so not much room for visitors. Apparently the plan is that they will bring a tent and put it up in our (tiny) back garden, and 4 will sleep there, and nephew in our spare room. These are grown up men, I have never met them (apart from nephew) and tbh I just don't want them to stay. DH says that IABU and they will be be no bother, but they are going to have to use my bathroom, and if they are staying in my garden then I will have to offer them some basic hospitality (a cup of tea!). I am recovering from an injury myself and I just can't be bothered.

I don't know really. It's just one night and they won't be in your house. If it's just a once off I think I might be ok with it.

Oh no, they won't be in your house. Apart from the toilet, having a wash and breakfast in the morning. All X4.

Sorry Ithink that looks like you've double posted!

And I don't know why you've specified football fans Confused. Nephew and friends would have covered it.

If your DH does the catering and cleaning up then I don't see the problem. If he expects you to do it then YANBU

You don't have to offer them anything, you haven't invited them, they've asked if they can stay.

It's also fine to implement rules, like where you want them to take a piss during the night etc.

If they're used to camping, they'll be happy in the garden and will be just taking a quick shower and be out etc.

They may bring a camping stove, to heat water etc.

I think I'd be fine with it for one night. Get DH to make it clear that as you're recovering from an injury that he will have to provide any assistance to them.

Is this a compromise you could live with?

Yanbu. I would hate it. 5 extra people to use the loo and shower. No thanks. Why can't they get a premier inn or something?

OMG - men using your bathroom! And having to make a cup of tea!

YABU and inhospitable.

Yanbu if you don't want them to stay, you are unreasonable for not wanting football fans to stay. If they have just been promoted surely they won't be coming until August at the earliest.

As long as they are sober Its only one night. Let them have a quick shower, Tell dh to clean the loo after they've gone.. Make them some rolls in sausage or bacon then send them on their way.

If you've room I'd let the 4 of them camp down on the living room floor.

YANBU. I wouldn't want 4 strangers station in my home either - still your home even if they are camped outside as they'll want to use your facilities. They can stay in a B&B or something.

How old are they? If they are adults they should pay for proper accommodation

Well I can see that if you only have one bathroom/toilet it's a lot of extra people. However they probably won't be much bother if they are just staying and sleeping before the match, and I'm sure your DP could manage to make a round of tea, grill some sausages and clean the bathroom after them.

Would you have a problem with any guests? Or just football fans?

There's no need for you to do anything for them. They're grown men and in any case they're your husband's responsibility. I assume it's also his bathroom and garden?

I agree that them being "football fans" is totally irrelevant.

I think you're being a bit grumpy to be honest. It would be fair enough to make your dh take responsibility for looking after them during their visit since he didn't check with you first.

Presumably they're talking about next season anyway.

It's one night for god's sake. YABU. And completely snobby

No! I'm with you OP.

I wouldn't want 4 strangers in my house or garden regardless of whether they were mates of my nephew.

Not snobby , just realistic .

You are being selfish and inhospitable. Presumably it will be a Saturday night into Sunday morning and your H will be there. He can make the cups of tea etc. You will barely notice they are there before they are gone.

Come on, do this small act of kindness and generosity and don't be such a grouch.
