To think the aintree daily mail article is mean and fat shaming

I went to to Aintree last year and everyone was friendly. It seems mean to shame people because they wore a revealing outfit or is a bit heavy.

Just like every Mail article the paper does not directly insult but leaves it up to its readers to comment insults.

It does seem biased and goady. They always pick the worst pictures, overweight, drunk and cheaply dressed women. Surely not everyone looks like that.

Whilst I agree the DM is notorious for this kind of thing, there were a lot of women there who did themselves no favours.

Pulling up each other's skirts to get your arse photographed is hardly in keeping with the 'Chanel inspired' dress code is it?

It's snobby bullshit, and really nasty fat shaming.

It shouldn't matter what size women are. The women there have all spent plenty of money on hair, makeup, outfits. Yes some people might think said outfits are not the most flattering but fuck it, their choice.

I love seeing them all dressed up, and frankly 'd rather see that than women who feel compelled to wear the standard (dull as fuck) mummy uniform all the time!

There's a thread about this in Style & Beauty at the moment, that was started specifically to point and laugh.

There are some horrible, horrible comments on it.

So we can't just blame the Daily Mail when posters on this site see it as 'sport' themselves.

And yes, I have reported the thread and individual posts (about six) and had the exact same reply to each report.

'Thanks for reporting, we're taking a look at it now'.

Yeah, right.

No, we cant just blame the Daily Mail. It's the most popular newspaper on Mumsnet and judging by some comments I read, the vitriol is nearly always worse on here.

Yes I saw a picture of Colleen Rooney and I was like this . It needs to be warmer than this for me to wear a short sleeved dress not wear a coat They must be hardy in that part of the world.

The one in S&B is now well over 200 posts but it's mostly been clawed back by those of us who think that it's wrong to 'shame' women like that.

That post on the one you've just linked is disgusting.

Wtf is wrong with people that they think it's ok to talk about other women like that?

If you walk through most towns in winter in the middle of the night you will see hoards of young women teetering on heels and wearing next to nothing. This is true of everywhere including leafy, wealthy Home Counties towns.

The mail never do those. Unless it's a story about posh tottie preferably with a well know private school or a Royal.

Most of the women look like they are having a brilliant laugh with their mates. Yes plenty of unflattering outfits that I would probably look twice at if I saw at a wedding or similar occasion but the women would never know what I thought....when it's in a newspaper for all the world to see its really mean.

There are some beautiful, elegant women, and equally some terrible outfits and shoes. Some women just dont know how to dress for their figure and go for 'fashion'

The worst are is the end of the day with the 'ladies' laying on the ground pissed.

Thats true and we've all done it. Spending the whole afternoon outside is different to a few minutes while you go for a taxi. I was practically brought up on racecourses and if you don't dress for the weather it is miserable.

A lot of the photographs feel quite intrusive. I wish we saw a lot less of everybody's drunken outings than we do in the media these days. I am eternally grateful at how FEW photographs there are of my in my teenage years and party-hearty early 20's.

It's the fake concern from people saying 'how cold they must be', that makes me laugh.

When I was a teenager/early 20s I don't think I ever wore a coat when I got glammed up. Mainly because most places charge a small fortune for a cloakroom fee, and the queue to retrieve it can be a mile long.

It's as though some people were never young themselves, or they just can't remember it.

Yeah, me too tobysmum.
I go racing a lot and I take jumpers even in the summer because it's so exposed it's rarely really warm.
I'm just saying the photos are not about the women being dressed poorly for the weather. It's about laughing at fat women in cheap nylon.

I expect a lot of the women going for the first time have no idea how fucking freezing it is. But how many are outside actually watching the racing and how many spent all but a few minutes inside?
I went to Kempton a few weeks ago and walk from the car to the restaurant. That was it.

Yes I can see the difference.

However, those ladies choosing not to wear a coat, doesn't actually affect the body temperatures of the Mumsnetters with the fake concern, does it?

It's just another way to judge them because they've chosen to do something that some Mumsnetters wouldn't.
