AIBU?

to think I am not taking anything away from my sister?

I have 2 sisters one is 4 years younger and one is 5 years younger, 18months between them.

Growing up they did more things together and I was always separate. Not especially close to either, but youngest one has always had a fiery temper and very stroppy etc. TBH she reminds me of my abusive mother and I feel on egg shells around her.

My OH and I started in October to go to watch a sporting event as it was a special Halloween themed one and looked like something different to do. When I said to my Dad about it he had mentioned that youngest sister had been going to see it sometimes. OH used to go years ago and has just got back into it, he goes maybe 3/4 times a month and I will go with him maybe once every 6 weeks. I quite enjoy it but am not a huge fan, it is just something to do that has a good fun atmosphere and entertainment. Also is only 10mins from house so is easy to get to etc. The venue holds 4000 spectators each time

I have only ever seen youngest sister there once, where she waved at me and that was it. She likes to keep where she goes/who with etc very private!

Apparently she has been telling other family that she is really upset and angry with me for going to watch this event as it "her" thing and I am "taking it away from her"?!

AIBU to think she sounds like a spoilt toddler?

YANBU (first time I got to shout that out and boy does it feel good!)

It's a public space that you are entitled to go to. She should be grateful she has something in common with her sister. It is not hers to own and she cannot stop you going. Let her be angry and jealous about it. I can guarantee nobody agrees with her that you are "stealing" anything from her.

She sounds like a jealous brat who never got taught to share and has to lay claim on literally everything in her life!

Jesus that's incredibly teenage sounding of her, no one else can enjoy her "thing" because its her special thing. Childish. YANBU

She is nearly 26 now, the teenage thing is right. I made allowances for her up to 21ish as I thought still in teenage mode but she is still the same.

Its pretty nasty of her to say is spoils it for her to have you there. Thats not even passive aggressive.
I'd have to wave frantically and shout cooee! at her every time after that...

Do they have those illuminated scoreboards? Put up a big, gushy message to her with

They have score boards but only with scores/penalty info.

The announcer guy does shout outs at intervals etc! You just need to email to ask for one! OH keep joking we should pretend we have got lost from her and put out a missing call for her to come to the main desk to meet us.

The ice hockey by any chance? You are definitely not BU. Its not her thing, its a thing in a public space that you're entirely entitled to attend. I like the idea of a video screen message but otherwise just ignore her griping.

Yes, do it! I'm with your DP! Lost messages, welcome home messages, birthday greetings, congratulations on her engagement/OBE/pregnancy messages ... go nuts Grin

I'd ask if she feels the same about the other 3997 people there...

She's being ridiculous YANBU - does she always make things about her? if so I understand why you are not close Sad

puglife made a good point. Whoever repeated what she said on to you might be a stirrer.
Pretend you never heard it.

Uhm she's one of those who expects the world to revolve around her isn't she.

I wouldn't pay any attention, if I'm honest.

Yes it's ice hockey. They do themed games like Halloween/valentine's day and auction off the themed players jerseys for charity and stuff. It's very family friendly and all ages go. Play games and have a cute mascot etc.

Unless you're purposely buying all 4000 tickets each time just to spite her, she's being a numpty.

Does she breath oxygen? If so then you are copying her and nicking her thing.

Tell her to get over herself - the ice hockey team need more than 1 ticket to keep on going. Anyone listening to her will be rolling their eyes at ridiculousness.

Ooh, love a good fight on ice!

Just ignore. About time she realised she can't control you or what you want to do eh?
