to feel a little guarded over posting?

In the last week, I have read 2 stories on the DM, taken directly from MN - One about micromanaging a DH and another (Cant remember the exact topic) and it got me thinking, what if you saw one of your posts, or replies on something like the DM? It's made me a little guarded about posting in some ways... Surely they need permission to post something on their site?

Theyve been doing it for about eight years! Not just them, either. Almost all the 'buzzfeed' type articles in Telegraph and Independent are ripped straight off here.

It's simples.

You don't want to be in the DM, then don't start libellous, or scandalous, or scurrilous, or extremely pervy threads on MN.

If anyone thinks that bottom feeder journos don't spend half their day reading public forums they really need their internet privileges revoking.

Once somethings on a public internet site anyone can read it.

If you are absolutely opposed to seeing your ideas and experiences culled for a newspaper article, then don't post them on a public internet forum.

Well, this applies to any public online content. How many lazy journalists quote tweets as if they are somehow news?

I was quoted in the DM, and the Sunday Telegraph Magazine. The Wright Stuff think nothing of sticking a thread on the TV complete with all usernames visible.

Do not say anything you would mind ending up anywhere. Even deleted threads could have already been saved and it could be too late.

I'm very careful what I post here. I usually change small details to ensure I'm not so easily identified on the off chance someone involved is reading.

I got quoted in the Sun once from a digital spy post so it does happen.

I've been quoted. I was using a different MN name then though. It was a bit weird seeing yourself in the paper.

Never write anything in a text, email, whatsapp, Facebook message, Internet forum or any other format that you wouldn't want to see published on the front page of the newspaper. That's what I was told years ago and I still go by that rule.

It goes for photos too. Once you press send, you lose all control.

Usually if a thread or a post is quoted someone will say so on the thread in a 'look out you are famous' type way guerre so don't worry about not knowing.

I was a bit freaked out when I realised the DM had taken a screenshot of my comments in the 'words you don't want to hear from a midwife' thread. Not every day a story about my mangled bits is on a major news site. It has made me think twice about posting anything slightly personal.

I've been quoted in the Telegraph, but thankfully my name wasn't shown.

There was a spate of MNers changing their names to something anti-Daily Mail after they started up a "Today on Mumsnet" column. Lots of DailyMailWankers DontQuoteMeDailyMail type names. Some were very funny

I'm guarded over posting stuff cos I was once stalked (p'lice involvement and everything ) , so now name change, forum change, etc.etc.and I suppose I always will.

Just needs one nutter to target you and you're never ever sure if they've found you again and that you really but really don't want.

There's nothing I wouldn't want out there, otherwise I wouldnt post it. In another breath, some of my latter posts have been quite emotional and it's been a release to get it out there but I'd be quite upset if I saw it quoted somewhere too.

Just shows what is classed as newsworthy nowadays

I was quoted on The Wright Stuff once. As such, I name change a LOT.

Mind you, it's as scary when threads you're on pop up on Facebook...
