AIBU?

To not want to go to Las Vegas?

H and I are hoping to get away next year, just the two of us. I'm not massively well travelled, he is.

He really wants to go to Vegas and I just don't see the appeal. I don't like casinos. I like beaches and sightseeing and shopping. Would love to visit Venice, Portugal, Copenhagen but nothing about Vegas exites me.

AIBU or a bit daft?

Yanbu. I've never been but it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. There are dozens of places in the States alone I would rather go!

Wouldn't appeal to me either, there must be other places he would also like to visit.

Not at all!
I'd consider myself very well travelled and Vegas is my idea of hell.

Could you compromise, a USA road trip taking in some national parks and include a 2nt stop in Vegas ? There is some amazing scenery in the (realitivly) nearby area

It'd cost a lot of money and I just don't want to pay out a fortune of my hard earned cash on somewhere I wouldn't be really excited to visit.

Go to Vegas? - I'd rather stick pins in my eyes

I have been to Vegas but wouldn't go again. You are right, there are much nicer places to visit.

It's a shit hole.

YANBU to not want to go somewhere. It's your choice but Vegas has great shopping and sight seeing. Grand Canyon, Hoover dam, red rock canyon, lake mead and many other national parks are within driving distance. It's not all about gambling, there are great shows and restaurants too.

You could do a twin-centred holiday. You can only really do 3 days in Vegas anyway, then go somwhere more cultural. You can go to the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon .. it is fun looking round the hotels, there's loads to see and do, just don't stay for ages.

Vegas is great for shopping!

I would not be fussed about going to Vegas either.
How about Monte Carlo? Still got casinos, but close to lovely beaches in the south of France. And much cheaper to get there!

I thought that, but I did a few days in Vegas as part of a Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Yosemite, San Fran road trip... And loved Vegas! I also hate gambling so we didn't 'do' the casinos but we wandered on the strip, saw a show, did some touristy stuff.

Can you steer DH into a trip that takes in Grand Canyon etc with 3 days in Vegas?

YANBU - DH has been there quite a few times on business and it is definitely not somewhere he would go in his free time...he thinks it is pretty grim.

YANBU - exH loved it so I have been several times - IMO it is the pits and there are so many lovely alternatives.

He's been before and loves it. He's listed a load of reasons to go but they're all related to stuff HE likes. Might just go somewhere on my own Wink

Mind you, I did it backpacking on a shoestring, travelling around on GreyHound buses

Have never seen so many homeless people and untreated mental illness.

Yanbu to like what you lik but there is plenty of sight seeing and shopping to be done in Vegas, it is a true spectacle and the pools are great at the hotels. Not many beaches though Grin

The Grand Canyon is truly awesome, I think you should go for that alone.

Yes if you think it's only casinos.

There is loads to do that mean you could easily never step foot into the actual casino area.
Take a day trip out to the grand canon and drive through the desert.

Take a dawn flight in a helicopter past the dam and canon and land in Arizona for breakfast and horse riding with a Cowboys on a working ranch.

See some of the best shows you're ever likely to see anywhere to name just a few.

But if you don't fancy it then somewhere you do that's a compromise

YANBU - I can't think of anything worse than all that artificial light, hideous noise, crowds and the acres of fakery everywhere - and that's before you consider all the money being swept away from people who could surely use it more wisely. I realise I sound like a killjoy old gimmer here but the world is so full of natural beauty that I cannot begin to understand choosing somewhere like Vegas over that.

Since he's already been, he should agree to go somewhere you would both like to visit IMO.

Yabu it is one of the best holidays me and DH have been on and we normally do cultural, sightseeing holidays. We just loved the hot weather and the pools and the lazing around eating/drinking/shopping etc.

Is that where he wants the whole break to be? Don't see the appeal at all but if it was one night, I'd be prepared to let him have that. If you like shopping, you might like it though.

Vegas is shite.

It's a seedy hell hole and, as the dollar is so strong against the pound atm, it's really expensive which is the final insult.
