Was reading through the thread about fancy prams and thought back to when I had my first dc in 1999. I had a Mothercare travel system which cost £139 and consisted of a basic car seat (or "carry tot" as it was known back thenGrin ) and a two-position buggy; lie flat or sit up!

For the bus, I had an Argos "umbrella" buggy that cost a tenner!

Also, couldn't hide my shock when my dsis recently handed over £3.65 for a dummy for her dd... We used to buy the cherry dummy for 50p at our local corner shopGrin It was either that or nothing.

I had my second child in 2013 and couldn't believe how... "faffy" things had become! Anyone else?

I had my first child in 2002. My antenatal group all went to John Lewis and bought the "pramette" they recommended. It was a padded Mamas and Papas lie flat buggy and it cost nearly two hundred pounds! Two years later I had a second child and bought one of the first Phil and Ted's double buggies imported into the UK. They were pretty normal in Clapham but if I ventured into Central London people would literally point at us in the street. I would get stopped on a weekly basis by strangers asking what it was and where they could get one.

Six months later the Bugaboo was released and everything changed. I hosted an NCT tea and suddenly realised that there was two grand's worth of pram in my hall...and only three guests.
