Eating in other People's Houses

Whilst chatting about weekend plans at work today I have mentioned that me and DH are babysitting for some friends tonight and that we plan on getting a takeaway once we've put their kids to bed.

All fairly normal and standard, or so I thought.

My announcement - re the takeaway, has been met with the utmost disapproval and I am apparently massively out of order to even think about ordering food to another persons house whilst I am there

So - am I??

As it happens, I could hold a huge fuck off party in this friends house and she wouldn't give a shit, so long as she was invited and I will still be ordering takeaway, which she knows about and isn't bothered about either

When we baby sit my nephew we often order take away at my brothers and he does the same when he baby sits for us.

I'm a -much hated on mn- plumber. On Tuesday's if we're all working in a big job I often order the team a dominos s. I Always offer the customer a pizza free of charge and ask permission, but none have said no yet. but I am waiting for the mn thread aibu thread "my plumber ordered pizza whilst working on my house!"

People are weird about food. I stayed at my brother and sister in law's for a week as a teenager, to mind their dog too cheap to shell out for kennels
There was NOTHING edible in the house, literally nothing.
The fridge was completely empty, the freezer was defrosted and I couldn't even find the food cupboard, no trace of even staple stuff.
I had to feed myself for a full week, which I wouldn't have had to do at home, and to say thank you they brought me back a (small) bottle of Charlie perfume.
Miserable bastards.

I was slightly concerned I'd been doing it wrong all these years.

I work in a mainly male environment and find sometimes their views on things are different to me, but even my brothers would order a takeaway! maybe the men in my office just don't babysit ever!

My friends won't actually care what I do in their house - so long as their kids are safe and happy!

I love my plumber, he is patient, professional, does a fab job, not too expensive and only lives round the corner so if I need something done urgent he passes twice a day!

Max I've not picked up on Plumber hate.

Any Tradesman asking for coffee or the loo gets the occasional AIBU written about them but I've not seen stuff specifically about plumbers.

MaxPepsi because they might use your toilet. Workmen stepping into the hallowed sanctuaries which are some MNers bathrooms make them faint with horror and disdain.

The only way I can imagine this being rude is if you ordered something v smelly that the householders don't like.
