Is making the rounds on my FB today.

Now I know nestle are very controversial on here and more people are very upset that SMA have changed their ingredients without warning but surely there is no need to ban the product.

I know it's scary when your child is ill especially if you don't know why.

But I can't see how she can say that SMA are selling poison because baby food is one of the most regulated products on the market.

It's like saying well I reacted to kiwi and so did these other people we found so I need to ban it because it's poison.

Yes? No?

YANBU. I am allergic to Codeine do i need to start my own petition? Grin

So sma charged TBD formula and the child was poisoned? Nobody else poisoned then. So she had a horrible reaction to the new version? It wasn't clear what made the child ill.

Yes, what change in ingredients caused all this? Confused

I saw that. I'm sure SMA aren't trying to poison their consumers

Massively suspect that she doesn't say what she found written on the tin or what the ingredient change is.

I am allergic to lots of things, lactose, codeine for starters and chilli sends me in full blown anaphylaxis- maybe I should start a petition to get them banned!

Ooh where there's two of us already on the Codeine petition then. Grin

I don't really know what the big change is but I have heard of alot of babies seem to have a problem with it. Whether because of the fact it is essentially a new formula and they need to adjust or there is something that is not agreeing with a small percentage is not clear.

I think the biggest change is that they added fish oil which a lot of formulas had that SMA didn't

No, not even changed the ingredients - changed the packaging

There are lots of reasons to boycott Nestle over formula milk.

That not all babies react well to modified milks from a different species is not a reason to ban formula.

(I did wonder about today's date, but this isn't witty enough to be a spoof)

4974 supporters. Mmmm, my guess is that most of those would be the pro BF people.

I am allergic to rice. I have been caught out a few times because a lot of companies now use rice flour as a cheap bulk ingredient.

I now check the packaging on everything, especially if it says 'new recipe'.

Can we ban rice too?

I hate this sort of thing. If you don't like it, hate the company, annoyed they changed it. Stop buying it and even email the company.

Trying to get in banned is just a complete over reaction.

Besides which the Aptimel that she says changed her child's symptoms over night, made my son ill no idea why. He was grizzly, crying, wouldn't feed, would throw up etc. As soon as we put him on SMA gold he was fine.

So what about banning Aptimel? What would this woman do then?

There is no proof or actual facts in what she has written. They changed the formula. It no longer agreed with the child. She found one that did. SMA did not poison her dd.

What is twiney? And why the stream of consciousness "this is everytihng that is happened with no breaks and limited punctuation" body of the petition. If she wanted this to work she'd have been better off with the petition being shorter and more factual - "SMA have changed their formula to include X and Y. This has not be advertised and my child has reacted to it. I am petitioning Nestle to change the packaging to make this change more evident" etc.

I would have presumed that saying that Nestle poisons babies is libelous but hey ho, good luck to her and her lawyers

Oh and tonic water sends dh into anaphylactic shock. It can kill him. It's the quinine.

Can't see mumsnet supporting the banning of g&t s though Grin

Another on the codeine petition. Grin

Sounds more like the child had an infection. Dd had problems moving to formula from bf (my milk dried literally overnight), different brands suit different babies ime

Hmm, she's courting an action from SMA with this. I'd be wanting to know the name of the gp who claims that the formula was "poisoning" the baby and how.
Not a well thought out campaign...

Have just read the petition. It isn't a petition really: it's a stream of consciousness. And no chance that SMA would pay it any attention. Gives the person who started it their moments of fame though.

YANBU, it's ridiculous. If we banned everything that someone somewhere was poisoned by had an allergic reaction to, what on earth would we all eat and drink?
