To think this April Fool's joke is not funny

I'm a member of a "due date group" on the dreaded Facebook. We are all due March/April. One of the (yet to give birth) members has just shared a post her husband made on his timeline announcing the "safe arrival" of their newborn with a picture taken Google. It's had likes and congratulations posted on it.

Am I alone in thinking this is not at all funny? Maybe it's my anxiety disorder speaking but I'd be terrified of somehow "tempting fate" (even though I'm not sure I believe in fate to begin with) and what if something traumatic/the unthinkable happens when she does actually come to have her baby.

I also think the safe arrival of a healthy baby is nothing to joke about when so many people's babies don't arrive safely or healthy.

Or am I just having a sense of humour failure and need to get a grip?

But TBH I hate the whole concept of April Fool pranks - you see the occasional well-crafted one on social media but in general they're either blindingly obvious, unfunny or downright cruel - so I'm happy to join you in Curmudgeon Corner.

I don't understand. How do you know it's an April Fool and not the actual birth announcement? What is the picture of?

I can't stand people joking about being pregnant/having babies on April Fools Day. It's horrible for those who are unable to have children - to see people joking about something they can't have.

Flower, she posted in the due date group (a private group) a screenshot of her partner's "announcement" with a message chortling about his April Fool's joke to Facebook. She clarified to the group that she remains very much pregnant as there was some confusion there too.

Duchess, yes I know I shouldn't entertain "what ifs", but I am a naturally cautious person and have an anxiety disorder, which although well controlled for the most part often involves intrusive thoughts and I am currently worried over the health of my own unborn child so probably a little sensitive.

Glad to see I'm not the only person who failed to find the funny in their "joke" as she seemed to think it hilarious.

This reminds me of when ds1 had a lying phase. When caught out he would say "only joking" and I would tell him that to qualify as a joke it had to be funny

Agree with Fatima. I'd be furious if someone did it about my baby and a bit if it was about someone else.

I can't see how it's funny but it's the sort of thing "hilarious" people do and then accuse others of having no sense of humour

It's not funny to me, but seeing as how it's about their own baby and faking their own baby's birth and no-one else's, they are really also the only people who could be offended by their humour!
