AIBU?

Neighbour from hell

So this really is just a rant and probably no responses are needed but would be appreciated ! I have just worked two night shifts in a row and am absolutely knackered, and for what it's worth am on days tomorrow too. Spoke to next door yesterday and let her know that I had been on nights and would be again last night as she can be really really noisy, playing her music full blast, singing, screeching and playing the frigging bongos ! She is not a teenager, she is in her 60's and lives alone. I appreciate what we do in our own home is our own business and I cannot dictate what she does. Usually we pretty much ignore it and she generally tires herself out after a few hours and it all goes quiet again till the next time. We have had noise abatement, street wardens and the police involved on several occasions in the past but this only fuels her behaviour, whilst ignoring it tends to let her settle down eventually. She does have mental health issues and has been sectioned before and I do understand and do try to be helpful and be a good neighbour, but I am shattered and just want to go to bed. Earplugs don't work and going round would only escalate the situation. So Aibu to want to smash the bongos off her head this morning so I can sleep 😁 of course I won't do that ( I am a reasonable adult) but just want to ! Thought venting might just make me calm down a little . 😟

She plays the bongos? Oh lord.

Maybe you could get some noise cancelling headphones? It might help you sleep in the short term.

She sounds very unreasonable. Have you thought of playing dog barking sounds on your stereo (if you don't have a dog) at a time that she would be asleep if you know which wall would be her bedroom wall. Do this for a short period every night to startle her awake, sweet revenge Grin

Nothing constructive to add though!

Do you sleep while she plays the bongos?

Does she play bongos walking down the stairs?

Never play bongos walking down the stairs.

(sorry....)

YANBU. But if you have tried all the usual solutions, I'm not sure what else you can do, really :(

Bluemoonrising That was the first thing I thought of too, loved that episode.

OP, I hope you manage to get to sleep. I used to work night shifts so I understand how frustrating it can be.

I would leave music playing against the shared wall all night while you're on nights. Then she will sleep in the day too Grin problem solved.

Id like to second the noise cancelling headphones suggestion. I use them when I'm on nights and they're amazing, can't hear a thing. You can just turn them on with no music playing though it's not quite as effective, I just play something calm and quiet :)

Though Alexa has a much more satisfying idea...

Can you sleep in noise cancelling headphones? Are they not uncomfortable?

She plays the bongos? Is she Matthew Mcconaughey's mum? Grin

Yes I'm a vindictive little bitch, me. You know, I always wanted to learn the piano or drums. That wall would be a mighty convenient place to put them too. I've heard though that the prime time for learning a new skill is around 4 in the morning. But hey if you're coming home at that time anyway, you could practice for a couple hours before bed. Nice way to relax. Just saying.
