I love Mary Berry!

All MB recipes are good. I was given One of her books as an engagement present 17 years ago. I turned my nose up at it in a big way and have now had to do a total u-turn, I use the book all the time, the recipes are ridiculously simple, absolutely delicious and work every time.

which book is it?

Love MB, straightforward and very doable recipes for family cooking. Not too many out of the ordinary ingredients and great tips for preparing ahead and freezing too. I've had it with the trendy chefs, its MB all the way for me grin

I have Mary Berry Family Favourites book and there's lots in there that my (hard to please) dc like that are really tasty. I managed to introduce them to chillis with one of her chicken recipes. Lush.

MB recipes are great, my Mum bought me a couple of her books and I use them a lot. Most of the recipes are really straightforward and I've not had one that turned out inedible yet smile

Her recipes are delicious and work every time

The soup one is brilliant. I will never buy tomato soup again.

I found her book at home as a teen, it was pretty old then but I found an amazing curry recipe. Sadly I lost it and was gutted. It was so yummy and I haven't found a good curry recipe since.

I thought Mary Berry only did cake recipes until someone recommended this one to me and I love it!

Her books are great. The recipes are clear and precise, unlike Jamie Olivers whose I think are too chatty in style and not detailed enough.

I'm going to buy the Foolproof one next. I tried the roast butternut squash soup just copying it on the I player and it was delicious!

I'm not usually a fan but I think the lemon and pistachio roulade looks heavenly

I made the butternut squash and red pepper soup from her recent TV series and it was so easy and really tasty (especially considering I don't like butternut squash!)

Ive made that butternut squash soup twice now, it's delicious, even soup averse DH had thirds. Also very good if you've a cold as lots of ginger in it.

Have just been looking at her books on Amazon! Is it worth it for a vegetarian though, I mean I know her recipes have meat but are get very "meaty" or would I find some things I could make/adapt?

SecretsAndStuff21 Mon 28-Mar-16 21:54:23

I love Mary Berry and Delia Smith. Everything turns out perfect.

Bunnyjo Mon 28-Mar-16 21:57:54

Here's the recipe for her quick tomato soup and I agree with OP, it is delicious!

justmyview Mon 28-Mar-16 21:58:02

Another MB fan here. I like that her recipes include guidance about preparing ahead and freezing.

Made her lasagne recipe at the weekend and it was delicious

I think a lot of Jamie Oliver's recipes are too faffy, although I admire his work on school meals

Iggi, I would look on the BBC website before buying her books as a lot of the recipes are on there. Here's 18 recipes from her Foolproof Cooking Book that she's shown on TV. I have her books and I think they're excellent, but I haven't tried adapting any of the recipes to be suitable for vegetarians.

Thanks Bunnyjo, that looks like a great start. smile
