Got told off today by Deputy Head because I used the song, "Waterloo", (French Version) for a game in class. Apparently, it could cause offence. Have used it for years in multiple schools, the only reactions it has ever had have been along the lines of, "My mum likes ABBA/Didn't know they did a French version".
I suggested that it might be a metaphor in the song but must not use it again!

I don't understand. Why might it cause offence?

Did he think it was about "that" sort of surrender? That interpretation had literally never occurred to me. I think that's one of those complaints that says more about the complainant's mind than the subject matter.

Or does he just object to portrayals of war and slaughter? Still a bit of a reach.

Apparently, it could be perceived as anti French.

Half a million copies were sold in France so I doubt they have a problem with it (see here).
