To be annoyed that men are using the ladies cubicle at work to do a number 2...

I work in an office with all men except for one female who works downstairs but she isn't in very often.
There are 2 males that work downstairs also and are clocking when the lady downstairs isn't in and then they use the ladies loo to do their number 2's, leave skid marks in the loo, leave the toilet seats up and don't even bother opening the window when they've finished if they've done a particularly smelly one!

They have a male toilet downstairs, there is another male toilet on the middle floor and another one upstairs but only one female toilet so why they are choosing to use the ladies loo I don't quite know - all I can figure out is that they don't want to make their toilet messy/smelly so they choose to use ours.

They don't do it when the lady downstairs is in but they KNOW I am here because I park right outside the front door which they have to walk past to go upstairs!

We are a remote setup here so we don't have any office managers/HR people based here we pretty much manage things between us but as everyone here is male and no one is really in charge as such its difficult to work out who to ask/complain to...

A year or so ago there was another male downstairs who didn't care who was in the office he would use the ladies loo religiously every morning and leave his deposits behind in the loo for us to see (lovely) so HR did send an email round but that didn't deter him in the slightest (he's left now luckily) so not sure it's worth bothering to annoy HR with what might be such a trivial thing.

I was thinking about putting up a sign inside the door saying something like this is a female only toilet, please use your own etc but is that too passive aggressive??

Tell them if they want to use the Ladies, they must be wearing a dress

No it's not too PA in my opinion.

But if it doesn't work, then email HR or a manager.

The mens loos are probably grim if they are all shitting so want to use nice clean loo.
Although Some women's loos can be just as bad.

In this case I don't think a note is PA at all, it's justified. I had an almost identical situation years ago. Unfortunately notes and emails didn't work and after a particularly bad episode which left the ladies unusable for a day because it was so filthy I managed to get approval to put an external lock on the door. Only me, the other female employee and the cleaners had the key. Shame it had to go to that extreme really.

Put the sign in outside of the door.

You need a lock. Ask whoever is in charge of the building to get one installed.

I would put the sign up!!
When I was in the forces, I was the only woman working in the building. On numerous occasions my male colleagues used to use the female my loo to hide away from being picked to do shit jobs! Friday morning after a work Christmas party on the Thursday night, I found one of them sat on the toilet fast asleep!!
I ended up putting a sign up saying that they needed to find somewhere else to hide!

Buy some red food colouring, soak it into some tampons and towels and put a few drops in the water. Arrange tampons and towels artfully around the cubicle, et voila. Perfectly hygienic toilet for your own personal use. (Just clean it up before the cleaners have to).

Just drop a line to hr saying the same issues have arisen again and your having a lock with two keys only installed and it's just a courtesy email to give them the heads up, leave a key for your other female colleague. Locking it and being strict will mean you'll need to clean it between you but since it's only you using it that seems a small price to pay for a clean bathroom/privacy

I would get a lock or a code.

I worked in an all male building and a lock had been installed for the only ladies loo. I felt a bit precious heading off with my key, but now I understand.

Definately inform HR, you could also wait outside when you know they're in, then feign surprise as they emerge.

Feel your pain. There is one unisex loo on my floor next door to the men's and no ladies. I am constantly waiting outside (very pregnant) while some bloke has a nice leisurely shit. They come and visit from other floors as well.
Use the men's, you shit stink making cunts. I am considering making this into a notice and laminating it.

This has happened at my work in the past too. You knew when the men had been in there, because it was so fucking disgusting. I think that a notice did go round, and they might have even been threatened with disciplinary action. Thankfully, it's now stopped.

I think a lock or code for just to two of you to have/ know is justified here.

Maybe try the sign first though.

Time to use that old cling film trick when the other lady is away. The tampon one sounded good too.

Youremy I think you could reasonably ask HR to change that to a ladies.

haha love the tampon idea!

Love the lock idea also although not sure the landlord would go for it......will ask though!

I think I will try the note for now though

I'd just email everyone in the building saying that the Ladies Toilets have been left in a disgusting state. Please make sure a) you leave the toilets clean and b) you use the correct toilet.

Women's crap smells too after all.

Have a similar issue in my current office (more women and less loos than the op). My water in take has reduced dramatically so I don't have to use the toilet that often!!

For practical reasons one loo has been labelled for women only has the sanitary bin but that leaves just one other loo for about 30 men.

It's fucking grim and I'm glad I'm only in a few days a week.

You'd definitely be justified in putting up a note.

Male, female we all go!

So in this work situation sharing loos itself wouldn't bother me, but anyone leaving it filthy would give me the RAGEFEVER. The dreaded mumsnet loo brush is needed here, and anyone who's bowels warrant it need to use it

True story, I went to work once (I'm a doctor) and our staff loo had an ACTUAL LUMP OF POO on the lavatory seat. I seriously cannot understand why anyone in the world would do this. Utterly gross.

Be as PA or as aggressive as you like. Work involves sharing a sometimes intimate space with other people and they need to be considerate.

Ewwwwww gross loos
