AIBU about my DP's sandwich making weirdness? This is serious shit.

My DP made me a BLT last week. I asked for mayo, so he put mayo on one slice of bread, then butter on the other.

I didn't want butter, and thought it was weird that he considered that an integral part of sandwich making. I politely pointed this out and he said he wouldn't put butter in my sandwiches again unless I specifically requested it.

So, the other day he made me another BLT. No butter. Just mayo. All good you say? NO! Because he only put the mayo on one slice of the bread. So I had one dry slice of bread on one side of my sandwich. I went to get the mayo to add to the dry bread (because WTF?) and he now claims I am massive sandwich fascist and there's no difference between having sauce on one slice of bread rather than both.

I think he's a massive freak. Plus he always slightly toasts his bread before sandwich making. Which makes my unbuttered/unsauced slice EVEN DRIER!

Please tell me there's no one else out there this odd?

Make you're own sandwich.

YANBU. I couldn't be doing with a dry slice either.

However, i like a bit of butter on both slices AND a bit of mayo on the lettuce.

Buttering the bread is an integral part of sandwich making. HTH grin

MushroomMama Wed 16-Mar-16 14:22:01

Blt use toasted bread don't they but yeah make your own sandwich

SnakeWitch Wed 16-Mar-16 14:23:02

But the dry slice will just fall off!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks Wed 16-Mar-16 14:23:31

Buttering is compulsory unless it's a Nutella sandwich or a brown sauce sandwich. Then it's illegal.

PestilentialCat Wed 16-Mar-16 14:23:38

Dry slices are wrong - just wrong grin

I like butter on both & mayo on one. If the butter is too cold to spread properly I'll go for butter on one & mayo on the other.

Avocado is lovely instead of butter smile

YABU. Butter is an absolute MUST on all sandwiches in both sides of the bread.

Runner05 Wed 16-Mar-16 14:24:03

You make sandwiches without butter? What kind of philistine are you?! wink

anyoldname76 Wed 16-Mar-16 14:24:19

i don't toast my bread before making a sandwich, but i do put butter on each slice of bread, even if i was adding mayo etc, i think youve both got weird sandwich habits tbh grin

LaurieLemons Wed 16-Mar-16 14:24:33

grin I hate butter and sauce has to be both sides YADNBU

Purplepicnic Wed 16-Mar-16 14:24:49

Sounds like you are particular and particular people are best making their own sandwiches wink

LaurieLemons Wed 16-Mar-16 14:25:02

although I do toast it slightly

longestlurkerever Wed 16-Mar-16 14:25:09

Yabu. No butter means the bread doesn't stick to your filling so it's not a sandwich, just a pile of bread and cheese. Though your dh ibu re toasting it. If it's frozen fair enough but you have to judge it carefully.

Pinkheart5915 Wed 16-Mar-16 14:25:15

I couldn't be doing with a dry slice of bread, how is the sandwich meant to stick together?
I like butter on both slices and mayo.

dinkystinky Wed 16-Mar-16 14:26:04

You are both sandwich fascists in your own way - you should each make your own. I like sandwiches without butter (but only ever put mayo/spread on one side of the sandwich) - though I freely admit I'm a sandwich fascist and will make my own sandwiches to my own specs!

storminabuttercup Wed 16-Mar-16 14:26:19

Surely you just drizzle shit loads of mayo all over the lettuce? Butter or not!

DropYourSword Wed 16-Mar-16 14:26:30

I bloody love it when my DH makes me a sandwich. Always always tastes better than when I make it, even when using exactly the same ingredients.

Hoppinggreen Wed 16-Mar-16 14:27:30

Lettuce doesn't belong in sandwiches

TheCrimsonPleb Wed 16-Mar-16 14:27:45

You don't want butter ... on a sandwich ... and he's the weird one? The mind boggles.

DropYourSword Wed 16-Mar-16 14:29:39

Lettuce doesn't belong in sandwiches
Certainly does in a BLT!

Topseyt Wed 16-Mar-16 14:30:36

Butter on both slices here. Mayo, pickle or sauce are blobbed on top of the filling before the sandwich is closed by the second slice of bread.

Anything else is not a sandwich. There are laws about it, you know! wink grin

*Lettuce doesn't belong in sandwiches
Certainly does in a BLT!*

I second that dropyoursword
