We are currently get ting our kitchen done and choose a IKEA kitchen witch have tall deep units lovey


We brought the legs that go with the kitchen units however the builder had said they weren't very sturdy and brought standard legs with make the units about 5cm higher than the standard

My husband is making be feel awful and feel quite bullied by him o can't sit all day and watch the builder I have 3 children and in any case I no nothing about building work the first day when he set the leg on husband came home said there a it high then said no more more work was then done work tops now on sink in and yesterday he complained at me I

Then said do you want me to say somthing to the builder he kept changing his mind then said no

Now today's he's telling me we waisted 5 grand most likely devalued our home and now most of the works been completed there's not much that can be done
Really gets me the Kitchen has had the high legs for a few days and he should of said then

He keeps saying its looks strange because the dishwasher and washing machine don't sit flush under the work top
It looks a little night but tbh it's a good hight for me cooking and chopping ect

Apart from stressing me out what's the blinking point of saying now I am sure even as late as yesterday I could of said somthing to the builder but he told me not to and I no he's just going to keep moaning about it for years to come



I did say when we come to sell witch won't be for at least 10 years we can replace the kitchen as most of the cost this time was knocking out a wall and re jigging the way the kitchen was set up

Have we waisted the money is this a awful mistake

Please note were about half way through the build everything else is fine

Builder is a twat to have used higher legs

Can you raise the appliances up on an mdf platform or similar so they look right under the worktop

The gap between the worktop and the washing machine does look odd. I'd get the builder to replace the legs with the shorter ones so the worktop comes down. I couldn't look at that gap.

Basically were half way through getting our kitchen done


A couple of days ago builder placed Diffrent legs on the IKEA units and that has set them higher than the standard kitchen

My husband commented on it but said nothing now the work is futher along he is really ranting about it saying we have waisted our money and de valued our home

I did ask yesterday if he wanted me to to say somthing he said no but now the work is to far along as the work top has been fixed and is oak so wouldn't be cheap to replace its about 5cm higher than the standard

I can't keep a eye one the builders I have no kitchen had no water until today and was trying to keep the babies away from the noise and mess so haven't been here much myself

It looks awful tell the builder to lower it and use shorter legs. I'd want it flush too.

Your builder needs to fix it and make good, that gap isn't acceptable when you have had a new kitchen fitted.

I'm not sure either way. But, I have my dishwasher sitting flushed under the worktop. Kitchen was put in by previous owners. Counters feel a bit low. When I had my dishwasher replaced, I paid for John Lewis guys to remove the old one and plumb in the new. The JL guys had great difficulty because the worktop is too low and so there was very little room to move it out.

The feet are adjustable aren't they? your builder has cocked up I would not be happy with that. The options are to build a raised platform for the white goods/ fit a plinth to hide that gap or or maybe step the worktop to down so you keep the height you like on the main kitchen and drop it over the dishwasher (thats what i would do)I would get your idiot builder back and say fix this pronto, it can't be finished there are no plinth???

Your DH is unreasonable to blame you but it doesn't look right - tell the builder he needs to put it right, the gap sbove the appliances looks weird, and will he box in the bottom?

Tell them to put a skirt on the work tops - they are going to put a piece in at the bottom to hide the legs, they can put a piece in at the top to hide the gap. I've only ever seen it done before for people who need high worktops for physical reasons but no need for there to be an ugly gap.

I wonder if you could build a skirt under the worktop so it looks chunkier above the appliances. But agree with PP, get your builder to sort this.

Mmmmm I think it would annoy me everytime I looked at it tbh, im sure you didnt realise what it would look like till the tops went on. Is it too late to be changed (plumbing is on flexible pipes now isnt it so shouldnt be too tricky?) surely the builder saw how big the gap was, what did they say?

Your builder shouldn't have changed the legs, but he's going to tell you that you approved the change, which it sounds like you did.

A skirt on the top or a bos on the floorfor the appliances to sit on might be an idea faced with the kick board material to match in?

I am not sure I can now all the electrics have gone in and the units and fixed in place

I have been despratly been trying to get him to take time off work o he could supervise the build but he wouldn't it's been a real strain not having a kitchen everything every were doing the school run and trying to supervise a build I have no clue about then oh coming home demanding to no why they have done X y and z

Now he's going on its making me feel awful we waisted the money we saved
