AIBU?

To think royal mail junk unaddressed mail is out of control

8 separate magazines / leaflets today. All glossy so not as easy to recycle and cant use to light the fire. I at most get one or two letters a day and the amount of crap always outnumbers 5 times the actual addressed post

It makes it easy to miss actual post.

I'd rather pay a bit more per letter and not have so much junk.

If you put up a no junk mail do they take notice of it?

I have been known to save it up, put it in a couple of carrier bags, take it in to the post office and leave it on their counter for them to dispose of.

Obviously it has no effect whatsoever but does make me feel slightly better about it!

YANBU, I often get no addressed mail and loads of tat.

Saying that, they arent good with address mail either. Once they delivered a letter that had an address 4 hours drive from my house. And I had mail for an address in a town 4 miles away.

If you keep your recycling box in the porch, it can ease the angst.

Yanbu and it's increased a lot. There's a form you can download from the RM website to opt out of non addressed mail. It's meant to kick in within 6 weeks. I did this few weeks ago. If no change I'll be complaining to our local office!

Thanks ItsAllGoingToBeFine - form filled out.

Ooh thanks for the link, will be doing that ASAP.

When waiting for job letters / letters about benefits the junk is driving me insane. They seem to put the actual post in the middle of the junk so I have to sift through it everyday!

The unaddressed mail thing doesn't work because it relies on your postie remembering individual houses who don't want junk and also RM want everyone to have it because they earn money from it.

Inexplicably we get 2 sets of everything off the Post Office and a load of other crap as well. My personal bugbear is Virgin Fucking Media who send me a big envelope full of marketing crap every few weeks. I've gone faily high up with them to stop sending it and they did for a while and now it's started again and I don't have the energy to battle with them again over it and it's all so wasteful.

I just put it all in the recycling, without even looking at it. If they were serious about the real ethos of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, it would be illegal to leaflet people against their will.

So would a no junk mail sign do the trick?

I wouldn't mind if it was all decent paper I could use on the fire...

I take it to the office once or twice a month and put it in the shredder there.

Writing to the Post Office made no difference whatsoever- they get large amounts of revenue from the companies so hardly going to stop delivering (friendly postman told me it's a waste of time after I'd written)
Have sent off for a sticker, but not holding my breath. When it really gets on my wick I gather the junk mail up and shove it back in the postbox 😳

It has worked brilliantly for me, but we do have a particularly conscientious postie. He's only forgotten once, whereupon he immediately rang the bell, apologised profusely and offered to take the leaflets back.

sadly this is about all that is keeping the post office going.

but it is all recyclable, although that of course costs. It is about all you can do.

surprised how much people are getting, but then I live on Mars as far as advertisers are concerned. Not even a billboard for fifty miles. It is great.

Great timing!

It's been a few days since I had any junk mail delivered by the postman, today he put through 8 pieces of paper. 7 were junk mail and the other one? A letter addressed to a neighbour three doors away.
I've noticed this several times, that the actual post goes awry on the days they put junk mail through.

I found out how to stop it about two years ago, but it was so much faff I didn't bother. I've just gone to the link posted above and the removal process appears to be a bit less heinous that it was less time I checked.

Update to above. Angry

No it's no less heinous than it was previously and I've got the rage now!

On the website it says email us with your name and address and "We will then send an opt-out form to your address". That's a copy and paste.
No they don't send a form to your address, they send an email with an attachment that I'm supposed to print out and then fucking send that to them! Why should I have to print their fucking stupid form?

The form is on the website anyway, so what's the point of asking for someone's email ? Oh wait.. we've got your email now so we'll send you email spam now in addition to the paper shit we're delivering.

Really piss poor service, not to mention that it only lasts for 2 years then you have to go through the whole performance again.

Piss poor.

I am so fucking tempted to do this. Err, it wouldn't be breaking some obscure law would it?
