I usually get the bus to work so rarely hear the radio, but got a lift in today and only just found out that Eddie Izzard is half way through 27 marathons in 27 days! (For Sport Relief)

He's done it before in the UK, this time he's in Africa. Haven't seen anything on news websites or Facebook about it, clearly I'm living under a rock.

I'm a massive Eddie Izzard fan, so thought I would do a bit of bragging on his behalf while on my coffee break!

Sod all that running. He never looks built for it, bloody good effort :)

I've been following it closely. It's been so tough. The man is extraordinary.

Wow he has such determination

I read that he is going into politics which at first I was pleased to hear as he has always been political shame he is a Jeremy Corybn supporter

I saw a bit about it on GMB the other week.

He's doing a great thing.

I simply don't 'get' Eddie Izzard though, or why people like/dislike him.

To me, he's just always come across as very 'meh'.

Fair play to him though.

I remember following every day that he did the UK one, so I'm pretty sad I've only just caught up. The training people do to get through just one marathon event a year, and he stacks them up that that. Crazy stuff.

I don't even think I could walk that!

He's bloody nuts - his wee turned black when he did it in Africa!

That said I imagine he's been running daily since the first time so he's probably in much better shape than the first time when we all thought he was going to have a heart attack!

He's always been a big labout supporter (And donates quite a large amount of money), he's spoke for them for quite a number of years. :)

I will admit that as a teenager my fascination of his looks is what drew me to binge watching all his stand up videos and films he featured in (now DVDs in my collection) haha.

Such a clever, gorgeous and talented (and fit! - in the health sense) man. Doesn't get a lot of recognition for it in my mind.

I'm sure if you used your imagination you could guess that people find him funny, likeable, and/or rather amazing for personally raising £1.8 MILLION for Sport Relief in 2009 by running 43 marathons in 51 days, as well as many years of other fundraising, and currently running 24 marathons in 24 days to raise even more millions. Theres also the fact that he was a pioneer, appearing as a public transvestite figure decades before it was a widely known issue, and taking a lot of abuse for it.

If you can't see why people might be a bit impressed by him, I suggest your standards are slightly too high.

Yeah I've always found him wildly funny, extremely talented, clever, articulate, brave, sexy, selfess, charitable, and just the right amount of crazy, all mixed together into quite a lovely person.

But we can't all like him can we.

More for me Grin

"Dress to Kill" is a comedic masterpiece (sadly his high-water mark in stand-up).

And the Death Star Canteen routine is still priceless.

And fair play, he's performed in French in France ...

Yeah I see what you mean Janet and I think I worded it wrong when I said I don't 'get' why other people like/dislike him.

I just don't see anything entertaining about him, although I'm sure he's a nice enough guy.

We can't all be entertained by the same things I guess.

as with "LurkingHusband* I find Dressed to Kill a masterpiece. One of the first presents my OH got me was the full collectors set of all his stand up shows hearing how much I'd raved about him. I put it on and he barely laughed... and proceeded to tell me how it just "wasn't his thing" and that Ricky Gervais stand up was much funnier.... how our relationship survived that I'll never know haha!

I saw him last year in Montpellier. What caught my eye was (what I thought) was a large glam lady in very high heels doing a good job of walking on the slippy surface - I'm thinking I would be over on my ankle wearing them - then I looked closer and it was Eddie!

Ah don't forget the circle of cool :) loved that so much!

I had no idea he was up to his marathon tricks again. I'm not entirely sure I applaud it though, he only has one body and he really fucked his up last time. Slightly unusual pain/ pleasure thing going on there. Though in a good cause.

I've had the pleasure of meeting him. He did a bunch of gigs about 5 or 6 years ago in towns, my town made it on the list I assume because it was rather influenced by the BNP at the time.

He did tour of gigs practising his new material for a UK tour, and on the end tagged on a rant about the BNP...etc and not voting for them (in a comedic yet serious way), probably the first time I saw him mix his politics with his stand up.

Did the gig in Jeans and a Nike T shirt.... completely caught me off guard haha!. Managed to meet him afterwards and was very nice :)

Good thread OP. Does anyone know the best way of following his progress? I've heard the odd interview but would love to follow in real time. Thanks.

Ilovetorrentialrain

Just had a look through his facebook page. which I like and follow but for some reason nothing is every in my newsfeed. He's posting up some nice scenic pictures It looks like he's asking people to download the periscope app where it tells you when he is filming live on his runs and you can watch him.

I unfortunately have a phone that just about lets me browse the internet! no apps for me lol.
