To not be surprised that an emotive thread on here turns out to be a journalist fishing?

Reading the Daily Mail (yes, I know, it's my guilty pleasure) I stumbled upon a story about a woman who has a bulimic daughter who was treated at school without her knowledge and was transferred to their GP (boarding school but day child). This rang more than a few bells as I'm sure I read a thread about this a few weeks ago on here - one which I can't find on advanced search now, where lots of people shared very personal stories and advice.

AIBU to not be that surprised? I'd like to say it shocked me, but other than feeling that nothing on this site is as it seems at the moment, it just made me feel weary and unimpressed.

It was recognised at the time. Lots of posters very robustly posted about it, linked to the newspaper piece, etc. I think it was deleted. There may also have been another TAAT that was also removed... so this one may be too.

Also, I'm surprised that MNHQ doesn't ban posters who do this, if I had shared with/supported somebody who was just fishing for content to pad out an article (especially that kind of article) I would feel mightly pissed off.

I came on here as soon as I saw the article because it's so similar it can't be a different story and I was so surprised that no-one had noticed!

Totally agree with this sentiment. It makes one wary, doesn't it, of sharing help/personal stuff with people because you don't know if they really need it or are just looking for a story. I hope nobody needing help gets lost in the scrum.

Shona is a well known Daily Mail hack who has chosen, over the years, to discuss aspects of her family life in public in a manner that makes me wince. I am disappointed she felt it necessary to test run her article on MN first. Surely she has confidence in what she writes.

That Shona woman is an abomination. Nothing is her family's life is sacred. She'd sell her granny for a grand and her worst nightmare in terms of parenting is a placid, studious teenager who just wants to go to orchestra practice at the weekends.

I'm still annoyed that HQ deleted another thread by a DM hack, she tweeted that she was being trolled by nasty MNers. As the thread was deleted no one could say read it and see who was the sock-puppet who broke the guidelines by sending nasty PM's to MNers
