To ask what you give toddlers for breakfast

Ater reading the other thread about sending a child to school without breakfast and all the comments, I'm starting to think I must be a really bad parent.

My 2 and 3 year old eat either shop bought pancakes, cornflakes or scrambled eggs, beans and toast.

What do you give your kids?

DD is 2.3 and she has either ready brek, fruit, toast, eggs, crumpets - that's about it really, she won't eat any type of cereal or pancakes and beans on toast tends to be a lunch thing.

Mine aren't toddlers now but they have toast, with butter and marmite or cereal such as weetabix, redybrek or cornflakes WITH sugar and a cup of tea.

They sometimes have a boiled egg or two...or a banana or pancakes which I make myself or sometimes a muffin and a hot drink. They're 11 and 8.

They're both skinny and fit. With good teeth. They had similar as toddlers but didn't have tea then. They had milk or water.

weetabix
Shreddies
Cornflakes/Cheerios/Rice Krispies - not very often as he is asking for more food an hour later!
Sometimes toast or a crumpet with butter

2yr old has porridge with yogurt mixed in, rest of the little yogurt pot, half a slice of toast and jam. Very often she doesn't eat all of that but usually some combination.

Mostly porridge and fruit. Sometimes toast or rice crispies or sugar free cheerios. My son loves porridge (3.1) and almost always asks for it. Daughter less so (1.5) but will take it usually. I'm happy for breakfast to incorporate cooked food or continental style etc but while they are little and fussy, I'm just glad they do eat a decent breakfast.

DD (2) has porridge, weetabix with warm full fat milk (both with a little honey), wholemeal toast with butter/beans or cheese and as a rare treat hot cross bun with butter. We also offer her fruit (normally water melon, grapes or mango)

Cereals, generally.

Not a very popular choice or seen as a "healthy" one, but 4yo has Ready Brek, Weetabix or rice crispies, normally. Sometimes porridge or scrambled eggs and toast if we have time (no microwave). Some fruit too if we wants it.

Shreddies, Cheerios or rice crispies usually. Shreddies are his favourite. Followed by some fruit usually.

Weetabix and a banana for my 2yo.

After reading a thread the other day about a similar subject I felt terrible for giving my ds weetabix, toast or porridge and a piece of fruit.
How does everyone have time to cook a breakfast? ds1 only gets porridge if oh is home or if my 9 week old is asleep (not as often as I'd like).

I only ever had toast or cereal when I was growing up and thought that was the norm. My mum would think it was really bizarre to have beans on toast for breakfast but she'd quite happily have a bowl of cornflakes for dinner.

I'm definitely going to have to pull my finger out (when I'm not so sleep deprived and a bit more organised)

My 3.5 year old likes to have poached egg on toast and drinks water or milk.

My 16mo will not eat anything before 1030am... but when he does it's marmite toast or blueberries or cereal... he doesn't really 'do' eating yet...

Weetabix with raisins or banana, shreddies, toast, toasted t-cake, crumpets, pancakes.....stuff like that. I'm gutted that I can't have coco shreddies anymore!

Toast with either butter or chocolate spread on it

Cereal (he won't have milk on it so he eats things like Cheerios dry and has a yoghurt so still gets his calcium)

Pancakes/waffles

Breakfast biscuits/Cereal bar

Whatever he has he will usually have a yogurt and a banana with it as well.
I think all of the above are fine for a toddler. Even the chocolate spread

Mine has weetabix and fruit with hot milk or porridge with fruit. I need to widen the repertoire a bit!

Toasted sandwich with Vegemite, Fruity wheat bites cereal with milk, sometimes with a piece of fruit or small yoghurt.

Allergic to egg, so that's out! He doesn't eat much at the best of times.

Porridge, yoghurt, a banana, or overnight oats (porridge with yoghurt and fruit mixed together)

Mine are tiny weirdos and often have cherry tomatoes, cucumber, carrot sticks and hummus.

Or natural yoghurt, chopped fruit and honey. Or banana smoothies that they beg me to make then never eat.

They rarely want normal breakfast things, but then I'm exactly the same.

splendide · 07/03/2016 11:49

See mine would definitely yum down yoghurt and fruit but I feel like he needs something a bit more substantial first thing. I guess pretty soon he can chose his own breakfast anyway.

My DD(3) always has a cup of milk when she first gets up. She loves her milk!
A bit later she has something to eat: usually it's Wheatabix, or sometimes Shreddies, or toast with jam, butter or Nutella. Occasionally we might have crumpets or pastries. She usually has a yoghurt or a banana as well, and some more milk. She doesn't really like cooked breakfast items.

Mine is 3 and invariably has porridge made with milk - used to have it with mashed banana, but has recently decided this is disgusting, and now has it without, unsweetened. And wholemeal toast with hummus, if he's still hungry. The occasional pancake extravaganza on weekends. Milk or water to drink.

I wish he would eat eggs in any form other than tortilla, or avocado. (My own favourite weekend breakfast is avocado mashed with feta, lemon juice and chopped red chillies on sourdough.)

Only just a toddler, so still has a yoghurt and a banana, sometimes also some plain or peanut butter toast (this was the progression from a 'fruit layer' jar of babyfood which is basically yoghurt and banana puree). He often also has a snack of chopped fruit/veg/hummous/cracker an hour or so later.
I am currently trying to switch to something a bit more substantial for breakfast such as readybrek or weetabix with chopped banana/raisins, but he isn't having any of it so far! ;p :p
I don't think that we will ever be doing cooked breakfast except on special occasions though...I agree that beans on toast/dippy egg etc is more likely to be a lunch or teatime food here.

Cereal generally. Weetabix, shreddies, cornflakes or porridge. Sometimes toast and jam or bought pancakes. Rarely cook breakfast, even for ourselves. Eggs tend to be for lunch. They're not school age yet.

Dd has toast or other carby thing, but not cereal as she doesn't like it, plus fruit and most days a boiled egg/scrambled egg/omelette.
