to expect a hairdresser to actually cut hair?

Our hospital has a hairdresser but they won't cut your hair if you're a patient.

Is it me or is this strange? Why bother having a hairdresser on site?

AIBU to think they should cut patients hair?

I don't know why they won't cut hair, but I suppose if someone is stuck in a hospital they would want their hair washed and dried nicely?

I used to work on an orthopaedic ward, many patients would have physically struggled to wash their own hair. Sometimes one of the nursing assistants would wash and dry their hair for them, but it was quite time-consuming.

Maybe this hospital has decided that it's more cost-effective to have a hairdresser than to have extra nursing assistants? Gives patients a boost to have it done by a 'proper' hairdresser rather than feeling helpless because they can't even wash their own hair? Seriously, things like that can affect a patient and slow recovery!
