To be a bit miffed?

Quick back story, my little girl is 4 today, she had her party and presents last week as that was the closest we could get near to her birthday, all day I've not had ONE phone call from any member of the family to wish her a happy birthday, bearing in mind it is quite a special one, I'm not asking lots but you think they would have remembered, she loves chatting on the phone too. At 6.30pm I get a call from MIL to wish her a happy birthday, she didn't ask to speak to her either, she actually told me she probably doesn't know it's her birthday, (she does know), 15 minutes later SIL calls to say she meant to call, but lost track of time, her and MIL had probably been on the phone to each other with MIL reminding SIL to phone me. I know they forgot and didn't mean to because of the party last week, but it annoys me that MIL is very good at remembering birthdays, she sends cards and makes phone calls to people she hasn't seen in years and years. I know I'm probably being silly and there's nothing anyone can say or do, but it helps to let it out! x

YABU. Why is 4 special? And they did call, they just called in the evening.

4 is a special birthday? Is this a new thing?

OwlinaTree Mon 29-Feb-16 19:54:30

It's special because it's the leap year day, so it's the first time she's been able to celebrate on the actual day.

Er, you've had two calls... And a party...

Hope she had a nice day op, glad she had a lovely party. Monday's are just a rubbish day for remembering things IMHO.

FunkyPeacock Mon 29-Feb-16 19:57:08

I am assuming it is special because it's 29th Feb!

I'm on the fence - if you wanted a fuss today then you really should have had the party today

And no you haven't had ONE phone call from a family member, you've had TWO wink

If they all came to her party last week and gave her presents, yabu.

I would be quite hurt, I think. But I suppose that perhaps after 3 birthdays on another date they've forgotten it's actually quite significant this year?

Unless of course you usually celebrate it on the 28th and they've totally not acknowledged it.

Who were you expecting to call?

Katenka Mon 29-Feb-16 20:00:53

Yabu. You already had a party which I assume try acknowledged and they did call.

I remember my aunt kicking off because mum dropped her sons cards in, in the afternoon. Apparantly that wasn't good enough and they should gave been there first thing. We were all a bit confused

Are they quite good with coming to see her/keeping in touch with her generally or do they have form for this kind of thing?

iyamehooru Mon 29-Feb-16 20:07:01

YABU. She's celebrated her birthday last week!

Imnotaslimjim Mon 29-Feb-16 20:08:58

I'm assuming its special because of the date, rather than the age?

Its sad that people have forgotten but no point making a big deal about it. As far as they're concerned, she's already celebrated her birthday

Happy first birthday, LittleTeddy.

Teddy1970 Mon 29-Feb-16 20:34:29

I didn't want a big fuss, just an acknowledgement or a quick text would suffice. And thank you SanityClause
