WWYD nursery fall

I've never really posted on here before but just wanted to solicite some advice /opinion.

My 18 month old dd goes to a nursery we think is great. They seem caring and attentive and she seems to enjoy being there (big hugs and smiles when she sees key workers etc). On Friday she lost her balance whilst she was trying to get something and fell and banged her head. She had a bit of a gash and had to have it glued at a&e, but I think we were more upset than she was!

So my question is how do you think we should approach this with the nursery? Do we chalk it up as one of those things that happens? Or should we be asking more questions? Like I said we do really trust them and my instinct is not to blame them in anyway. They dealt with it all brilliantly and were also very sorry it had happened.

I'm not the type to go in guns blazing, and don't instinctively feel like the situation needs that, but should I do something?

WWYD?

Why you think you should do something?

Do you think it was something other than just one of those things?

Did they tell you about the accident? Were they concerned? Did someone see the fall? Important details needed to form a judgement.

Toddlers have accidents - I don't see why you'd be angry with the nursery?

My DS has had plenty of falls and accidents at home under my care and he has also had bangs and accidents in his childcare setting - and has had to visit A&E on a few occasions. It happens.

Unless she's getting injured every time she goes then I wouldn't stress yourself out over it.

Did she fall due to a failure of supervision? Or was it the sort of accident children just have, whatever you do?
If the latter, and they got appropriate treatment for her, and told you what happened, I'm not sure what else you expect.

Are you worried you would be letting your dd down if you didn't 'do something'? I think that kind of protective reaction is normal but the accident does sound like just one of those things that happen.

She had a toddler tumble - it was an accident, not sure what you expect the nursery to do?

Hope your dd is feeling much betterThanks
It sounds like an accident and they dealt with it quite well. Why do you need to say anything to them?

Was it something preventable or does something need to be moved to make the area safer? If not and the nursery dealt with it well then what else can you do?

The nursery should have filled out and shown you an accident form

I think it's because I'm naturally a bit conflict adverse and like oddboots says I'm just wondering if I'd be doing a disservice to dd if I didn't say anything. My inclination is that it is definitely just one of those things, but a few people I've told have sort of raised eyebrows.

I'm really glad to hear my natural judgment isn't impared too much! Thanks for all the replies!

You need to thing about:
(Used to manage a nursery)
We're there enough staff on shift?
Is the room set up with a toddler in mind?
Did they follow the correct accident procedure?
And have they since been in contact
to see if she's ok?
If you thing they have done everything correctly and the set up is good then I'm not sure there's much they can do.

How do you stop a toddler falling over.

I think I would want to know the exact circumstances of the fall. If she tripped and caught herself awkwardly then that is one of those things. If you think she wasn't supervised adequately, was allowed to climb inappropriate equipment or equipment was unsafe then I would be very unhappy.

That's great advice, thanks Grip.

I feel pretty confident on all those points, I actually contacted them later on the day to let them know she was ok.

Thanks all, feel much better about it now.

Just to elaborate (sorry to drip feed). She was reaching to get something near a small wooden children's table (rounded corners) lost her balance and hit head.

If they explained what happened and filled in an accident report and nothing was wrong with the environment and staff ratios then I would leave it at that. Kids can trip over their own feet.
