Quality of Next clothing

Is it me, or has the quality of clothes from next really gone down?

Here are a couple of bits I noticed with really poor finishing

Yes! I used to buy all my son's clothes there, they washed beautifully and I've been able to use some bits for my daughter. However since she was born 8 months ago I've returned a number of items with shoddy seams and stitching, etc. Some of the designs are a bit cheap looking recently as well. It's getting a bit like Asda and I don't like their style of baby clothes either.

If you go on to Style & Beauty (I lurk on there), everyone generally agreed that the quality has dropped.

I'm still buying their coats and tops for my Granddaughter, they wash slightly better than the supermarket clothes, but don't cost much more and she's at an age were she's growing quickly.

Lurking on S&B persuaded me that it's better to own fewer clothes but buy better, if you can, if you want clothes that last more than a season.

I think the quality is really variable. I used to buy a lot of kids clothes there as pretty much everything used to last well but I don't anymore because I can't guarantee they won't look awful after a couple of washes. I bought DD some cardigans a few weeks ago and after a couple of washes, they looked rubbish. They shrank, went really bobbly and only looked fit for the charity shop bag.

Yep. I bought this jumper from Next just before Christmas and this has happened already.

Yes. I gave up buying clothes from them some time ago.

All the children's clothes I have bought have been fine, I don't wear their stuff myself so can comment. I do think they are a bit cheaper than they used to be so maybe the quality is reflecting that.

I think the quality of clothes from the high street in general has really gone downhill. They are either really cheap, nasty man-made fabrics or, if they are natural fabric are so thin that they get little holes or tears in almost immediately. I think from now on I'm going to limit myself to what I buy and buy fewer quality pieces that will last.

Me too. I've still got basic type clothes from Next that I bought 13-15 years ago, that are in better condition than the couple of bits I've bought in the last 2 years. Seams coming undone, neck & sleeve edgings coming apart & I've had to repair them. The older stuff has been worn until the cloth started to get thin & a bit tatty, but I never needed to repair any of it. Having said that, the types of cloth they seem to favour now, wears through a lot more quickly too.

I also noticed there is less cotton, linen, wool, leather etc now, & rather more acrylic, plastic & polyester.

I used to rather like Next & probably spent a fair bit there. I'd pass it up now, even on sale, as it's too much hassle.

I've stopped buying for the kids from Next. It just wasn't lasting any longer than Tesco/Asda so there was no point paying the little bit more.

I find some things better than others. I do sometimes return things I've bought online because the quality feels dubious.
