Cravings are getting to me so much tonight.

Tell me to get a grip and that it will get better.

It's been over 2 weeks now.

2 weeks is fantastic! You can do it.

Tell the cravings to go do one. Don't let the fags win.

You can TOTALLY do it. Two weeks is huge and its all down hill from here. Do something to take your mind off it

Two weeks ago did you think you could do two weeks? Every day was a surprise to me. Then I looked back and realised it had been two days. A week. A month. Six years now. One day, when I'm about 65, im definitely going to start again. And I'm going to drink wine every single day. Can't wait. Good luck x

Thank you both, I know it's because my work couldn't release me to see my therapist yesterday as she is fantastic, expensive but fantastic.

She is getting to the route of all my problems.

I booked her for 3 months. So 6 more days till I see her.

Plus I can't cheat as she has this machine that can tell if I do smoke.

What are your views on vaping?

I took it up for NY, and I'm honestly enjoying it far more than smoking.

Guilt free fun. I recommend it.

You will be so glad tomorrow that you didn't cave. I quit for good two years ago (after more than 20 years of smoking). I promised my partner I would never smoke again and I won't. Ever. The indecision about whether to cave is the anguish you are feeling. Just decide you are Done with that pointless imprisoning chemical.

It gets easier and easier. I have no cravings now at all, and haven't had for months. You can handle the ones you are feeling, and they actually pass in just a couple of minutes. The best thing I ever read is when Allan Carr (the quit smoking guy) wrote that if nicotine cravings are so bad, why don't we wake up at 4am with the screaming abdabs?!

Breathe, relax, and reaffirm that they are in the past, and the decision has already been taken. Keep going. Soon you won't care about fags at all, honestly.

The nicotine is out of your body now, don't give in to it! 2 weeks is fantastic, well done! (13 years since I smoked)

If you give in, you'll have to start all over again tomorrow. If you don't give in, it will keep getting easier.

It's so hard.

I don't want to vape, I want to be free from all smoking related products.

I can't smoke as I have no fags in the house and all shops are shut.

Perhaps a long soak in the bath with my very expensive sets I had for Christmas may be a good idea.

I am so glad that I gave up smoking. My skin is better, my breath is better, I can breath much more easily and rarely if ever get a cough. I love that my clothes smell of washing powder not smoke, I love that I never get anxious that I'm running low on cigarettes and I don't know when I'll be able to buy more and I love that I'm saving a bloody fortune.
I also love that my kids won't see me smoke so I won't feel responsible if they choose to smoke.
Some of these may apply to you and some may not but think about what you gain from being a non smoker and pat yourself on the back for having got through the hardest part.

You'll be fine. Get through tonight, you'll be thankful you did when you get to tomorrow. I never thought I could manage it (30/day for many many years). I'm 10 years off them nearly. It's a difficult thing to do, but so worth it.

Have you read 'Alan Carr's easy way to stop smoking'? I read it twice, and after smoking for 15 years somewhere between 15-40 a day (depending on the day!) I stopped smoking cold turkey 3 years ago, I can honestly say I have only had one craving since then and it was because I was drinking alcohol.

I had tried all sorts of other methods, patches, gum, champnix but nothing lasted for more than a couple of months.

Dont be so hard on yourself OP. 2 weeks is amazing. Especially if you are going cold turkey. You can do it!!

Have talked to OH about this and he says the first couple of weeks are the hardest, so according to that theory you've done the hardest bit! He smoked for thirty years (heavily) and has been smoke free for over a year now - he says that food tastes amazing now!
Go you....keep it up!

Report
BillSykesDog · 21/02/2016 22:50

Just think, if you have a cigarette now, you'll have to do this all over again from the very beginning! Not worth it.

Thank you all very much.

This is so hard.

I really need and want to give up.

My quit day was the date a year previous I tried and thankfully tried to take my own life and I picked that date because I want it to be the date I give up smoking. Not the date I tried to give up on life.

My therapist is working through all this, I did have 7 session on the nhs which got me to a better place.

I need to do this, I may have failed to take my own life but now this is me taking my life and Heath back into my hands.

Glass of cold water. Glug a couple and find something to do.
Bloody well done on 2 weeks clean. How much money is that?

If its been two weeks that not the dreaded nicotine talking - its stress or a habit.
Get yourself Alan Carrs book the Easiway to quit and read it cover to cover.

You dont need will power to stop smoking any more, you are past that stage. At this stage it would take you will power to start to smoke again. You would feel nauseous at the first drag, wonder what the hell you did that for, loathe the taste, need to spit on the floor and then feel annoyed that you smelled like an ashtray.

I tried to stop so many times but the last time seemed like the right time. Three weeks is really significant for some reason, so hang in there.

I never think about it now. Dont even know the date I stopped but around 7-8 years and I was not a heavy smoker just so psychologically addicted. Well done.

The first month was the hardest for me. Then for about a year, I had the odd craving, usually when I caught the whiff of someone else's cig. I did cave about 6 months in and took one of a friend's on a night out. Luckily for me it was a strong brand and actually made me feel a bit sick and lightheaded which stopped me carrying on.

I'm several years on now and I am so glad I stopped. No morning cough, fewer sore throats, can walk up a flight of stairs without getting breathless, no smelly hair and clothes and house. And the joy of answering that question at the doctors in the negative!

Hang on in there. You can do this thing. Good luck.
