AIBU?

To not 'bloom' during pregnancy?

My face seems to get wider/bloatier and my eyes smaller. This is not a good look as I have quite pointy angular features and thin lips.

I get dark circles under my eyes.

My face either looks very pale or red and blotchy.

My thighs get big, but that's about the only place (apart from my bump).

I'd like to be a round faced rosy cheeked blooming mother to be with lots of thick pregnancy hair and floaty dresses. Am I being unreasonable to want to fucking bloom?

Yanbu. My friend is blooming. She looks radiant. Shiny thick hair, curves in all the right places and bright eyes. I on the other hand look permanently deathly white or green. My hair gets thinner not thicker. I get blotches under my nose so I look as though I have a permanent cold. And now I do have a cold as well so I look even worse!!

Glad I'm not alone. I think there are more of us than the bloomy sorts...at least I'm telling myself that.

I never bloomed either. I don't do well with hormonal changes. I felt, & am convinced I looked, awful. I want another child but am dreading the pregnancy part.

My hair went thin and broke loads. Skin went blotchy and dry. Body went bloated. Huge feet and boobs turned into melons.

But it was so worth it. So worth it !!

Just accept your body is now doing a job. You will have a beautiful baby xxx

DP tells me I'm blooming and I always give a bit of an involuntary sideways Hmm. It's very kind of him though!

I honestly don't get this 'blooming' thing.

I mean it must be true that some women bloom because I've heard it said so often.

But most pregnant people I see just look either normal or a bit bloated around the face Confused

Maybe it's just something that's been said through the ages to make pregnant women feel better about their changing appearance?

I remember complaining about this to my best friend who replied "ha ha nobody glows, it's just the veil of hormonal sweat. We just keep it a secret until our friends are knocked up then we laugh at them. Welcome to the club."

I'm sure the idea of blooming is based on somebody selling something.

Nooo this did not happen to me. The only thing that bloomed were giant spots all over my face.

I looked bloody awful

I think some women bloom (like DM, she was showing me photos earlier of when she was pregnant with me and she was all glowy skinned and lovely looking) whereas I've gone really pale and have constant dark circles under my eyes - at least I wear glasses so the dark circles are nicely hidden.

In the past week I've been told I look 'really pale', 'washed out' and 'deathly white'. And that was all from family members.
No, I am definitely not blooming.

You know what? People are bloody liars.

All throughout my pregnancy people were 'oh it's just this trimester you'll feel/look/behave like shit, you'll feel invincible in a couple of weeks'. lies.

Blooming/glowing/looking really well... It's all bullshit as people feel compelled to comment on the appearance of pregnant women.

I never bloomed - I didn't look any different to my un pregnant self (bump aside). I haven't seen anyone else who looks blooming when pregnant either,

I think I did look better in pregnancy. My hair stopped needing to be washed every day, I stopped feeling the cold...

All turned crap after I had the baby though. Was a mess. My hair fell out in drifts, I looked permanently knackered.

You can't win.

I looked like shit.

Horrendous sickness for the first half during which I look exhausted, pale and at times even slightly green, followed by anaemia, followed by fluid retention and breaking out in spots on my face and back. Hormones hate me.

Out of my 3 pregnancies. .I felt I bloomed with my girls once I got over the horrendous 2 months of sickness but with my ds I felt I looked crap ..spots over face & suffered hormonal rash on my arms /neck and sides of bump ..and yet people still lied saying I looked wonderful Hmm

How matter how you feel - it's all worth it in the end !Smile

I certainly didn't bloom - unless you count expanding to the size of a barrage balloon! With my first someone even asked me at work if I was pregnant at about 8 weeks because 'no one comes in to work looking like you do, for the length of time you have if they are ill'.

My sister, on the other hand looked like mother nature herself and looked the best she ever looked - twice. No, I'm not bitter at all....
