Meningitis B Vaccine Petition

To ask you all to consider signing this Gov Petition ?

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/108072

I have young children and find it hard to believe this isn't being offered to all children .

I know the NHS is under alot of pressure however for those who cannot afford the private vaccine this should be given to all or offered at a reduced rate.

I've signed and shared. My 2yo DD has had the vaccine done privately but that isn't an option for many people and seems grossly unfair that unless you can afford £100's your child goes without at a vulnerable age.

Ah that is because it is titled " can I ask you all to consider something" it's in chat .
Obviously your thread is just as valid as it's raising awareness.
I am also in contact with 38° and they are preparing an online petition. There is ashortage of vaccine at the moment but the NHS is provided with it first.

My youngest was born 1 month after the cut off for the roll out, and unfortunately we cannot afford 3 lots of the vaccine at the moment.

I really hope the Gov can reconsider the roll out, most of my friends with children weren't even aware of the vaccine nevermind the process for rolling out so awareness does seem low.

Yes we must continue to raise awareness. I didn't know it existed when my dd was born, otherwise I would have got it done even if I put the cost on a credit card

I agree OP.

I have paid for both of mine to have it privately. However, of course not everyone can afford this.

It was a stretch to pay for elder one as well as baby, but what if she then caught it and I'd only vaccinated the little one? My friend had to do this as she has three and couldn't vaccinate all three.

I've signed and shared. A few weeks ago I tried to book my two DC's in to have it privately but due to the shortage of vaccines we're waiting to get an appointment. Completely agree with a pp that it's so unfair that private vacs may not be an option for some families.

I've signed and shared too. We can't afford to vaccinate 5 children privately and it's a horrible feeling to know the vaccine is there just out of our reach. Just awful!

Tried to book a private jab for my toddler yesterday, only to be told there is a national shortage - no vaccinations available until at least June. We are now on the waiting list!

However, her sibling who is due in April will be offered the jab as part of the routine immunisation. Seems highly unfair to me.

We paid £150 per dose. DS (then two) needed two doses. DD (then four months) needed two doses plus a booster at 13 months. So £750 in total. We had it done a year ago, and DD had her booster just before Christmas. Neither had any problems with it and it's a huge weight off our minds.

CwtchyQ · 16/02/2016 20:07

I have paid for DD to have this - it will be almost in the region of £500 when she's had all three.

It's put us close to the edge money wise, but fortunately we can afford to make cuts to fund it. It's disgracefully expensive.

My two had their first jabs done in January. They cost £130 each quiet so, as my youngest needs 3 injections it's going to cost us £650 altogether to get both dc done.
At the very least even if they don't become free I feel the private jabs should be subsidised so they're actually affordable for most people!
