She did look a bit like a bag lady.

A well-dressed bag lady

If you go against a dress code people WILL comment.
It's an occasion when everybody dresses up to the nines, men and woman.
There's a dress code.

So, if you rock up wearing a scruffy, unfeminine leather jacket and bulky scarf ensemble, then people are going to comment.
When I saw her, my immediate thought was ''wtf is she dressed like that''.
She was obviously trying to prove a point. What that was, God only knows.

Stephen Fry was only saying what most people were all thinking.

Come again?

DontCareHowIWantItNow Mon 15-Feb-16 16:26:53

This is going to go well.....

StillStayingClassySanDiego Mon 15-Feb-16 16:27:44

TAAT, this'll be gone within the hour.

Why start it?

ImperialBlether Mon 15-Feb-16 16:27:46

By a bag lady, do you mean someone who lives on the streets? If you do, then of course she didn't look like a bag lady. She was wearing a leather jacket, jeans and a scarf. I thought she looked as she would at work.

He was rude. He was the host and he insulted one of the women who'd won an award. There's no excuse for it.

TattyDevine Mon 15-Feb-16 16:28:45

Why should she have to look "feminine"?

Shutthatdoor Mon 15-Feb-16 16:29:15

This will go the same as the last thread with pretty disgusting insults being thrown before it gets deleted.

hollowlegs Mon 15-Feb-16 16:30:38

But why, on the one occasion when you can pull out all the stops and dress up to the nines, would a person deliberately choose to dress like a sack of spuds? confused

Maudofallhopefulness Mon 15-Feb-16 16:31:09

I'm guessing someone at the Baftas didn't wear a posh frock. Struggling to give a shit.

StillStayingClassySanDiego Mon 15-Feb-16 16:31:16

Jenny Bevan is a costume designer; a bloody brilliant Artist who Stephen Fry can't match in terms of talent.

He was a twat even if they are 'mates'.

PerspicaciaTick Mon 15-Feb-16 16:33:27

There is no way on earth that a normal middle-aged woman is going to be able to compete with Cate Blanchett or Julianne Moore, let alone the younger stars. So why not choose an outfit you feel comfortable and attractive in? She had nothing to prove, she had won the BAFTA, her future employment is decided by her talent rather than her eveningwear choices.
Someone somewhere would be rolling their eyes, not matter what she chose to wear.

hollowlegs Mon 15-Feb-16 16:33:39

Why should she have to look "feminine"?

Why not?
Why wouldn't you want to look your best?

Whether you're 'feminine' or not, there's nothing wrong with dressing to look good, especially on such an occasion.

PerspicaciaTick Mon 15-Feb-16 16:34:26

Why does feminine = best?

She probably believed she did look good.

grin thanks OP, you're thread title made me smile.

acasualobserver Mon 15-Feb-16 16:36:19

Someone on the first thread predicted that this controversy would lead to another Fry Twitter flounce. Just heard on the news that he has indeed departed Twitter - for the third time! Silly chap.

HaveIGotAClue Mon 15-Feb-16 16:36:41

Ok - can we have a link or something?

Lottie2611 Mon 15-Feb-16 16:38:53

She looked bloody awful!

Cocolepew Mon 15-Feb-16 16:39:01

Maybe she thought she did look her best.
Wtf has wearing a nice frock got to do with her talent?

GoringBit Mon 15-Feb-16 16:39:46

Stephen Fry is a rude, arrogant arsehole, who can dish out bantz insults, but flies into a raging sulk if anyone dare call him out on his shite. And his comment about Eddie Redmayne was grim.

Behooven Mon 15-Feb-16 16:41:12

What did he say about Eddie, it's just the 'bag lady' comment that's getting the attention.

OldCrowMedicineShow Mon 15-Feb-16 16:41:16

Yesterday, I had never heard of Judy Bevan but today, I'm now familiar with her work and think she is very talented indeed. If anything, she has 'won' the BAFTA dress award by dressing as she damn well pleased.
