AIBU to think this is not a suitable drink for 4 year olds?

Not sure if I am being pfb! I Still water down fruit juice when I get chance (do give it undiluted ic we buy bottles/cartons when out)

What age do kids start on the fizzy stuff/coke?

Pretty sure diet is a worse option than the full fat stuff too!

YABU. It's not gin.

It's a party. Fizzy drinks are fine at parties.

Katenka Fri 12-Feb-16 18:27:01

Yabu it's a school disco.

GabiSolis Fri 12-Feb-16 18:27:29

YABU. It's a party, not an everyday thing.

My DD is 6. She hasn't tried fizzy drinks. If there were other options I wouldn't worry about it.

Muskateersmummy Fri 12-Feb-16 18:27:54

Equally as bad as each other.. I would not let my dd have fizzy drinks at this age. YANBU

Mine has just decided he likes coke.

He is 12...

Sorry, probably not much help.

I think he got offered more fizz at junior school age. Don't remember it from infant age.

I'd be very unhappy at this. I can't believe I'm in the minority!! Crazy!!

YANBU, it's awful stuff for kids. I never started mine on them at all.

Both DS's and myself never drink fizzy unless theres a bit of vodka in it (DS's are 18 and 19 by the way).

Yanbu. We thought it was risky giving the children squash at our school disco (and some parents complained) .

Pancakeflipper Fri 12-Feb-16 18:30:17

YANBU - I would prefer (and we serve) water and very watery cordial.

Not even the juniors get coke - they get water and fruity punch (no gin or vodka)

BrianButterfield Fri 12-Feb-16 18:30:23

Infant school? No, there's plenty of other drinks easily available.

Soooosie Fri 12-Feb-16 18:30:24

I'd be disappointed too. Why give them coke when there's nicer stuff?

Twowrongsdontmakearight Fri 12-Feb-16 18:30:30

YANBU. I'd have been very cross if DS or DD were given Coke let alone diet anything at that age. Ugh. They were still on water or squash till late juniors. DS still doesn't drink it and DD does only if nothing else is on offer.

Yanbu. I'm surprised at the first responses. Neither of my dds (7&5) have ever had a fizzy drink, squash is given at parties etc of everyone we know.

steff13 Fri 12-Feb-16 18:30:59

I wouldn't let my kids have soda at that age, and I think I'd expect juice or punch at a party for kids that age. But as long as there was something else available, I wouldn't worry so much about it.

As an aside, I've always wondered, so I'm just going to ask - why do people refer to regular soda as "full fat?" There's no fat in soda. The difference between regular and diet is sugar, fat has nothing to do with it.

gelizabeth Fri 12-Feb-16 18:31:38

Not appropriate for 4 year olds YANBU. Regular cola is full of sugar and diet is full of chemicals.

Osolea Fri 12-Feb-16 18:32:12

I wouldn't have liked that either. There's no need for it at a school disco.

987flowers Fri 12-Feb-16 18:32:30

Yanbu. At my children's school it is squash for ks1 children. When it is the ks2 disco the hard stuff (fizzy but no diet crap) comes out!

Muskateersmummy Fri 12-Feb-16 18:32:47

steff it's a turn of phrase. Full fat ie not diet. Nothing to do with fat content or the lack of it.

bibbitybobbityyhat Fri 12-Feb-16 18:34:04

Yanbu! Yuck. Completely unnecessary.

I think YABU. It's a party not an every day occurrence. There are far worse things to get frothed about than a bit of Diet Coke at a kids party.

Maybe my radar is skewed, I grew up in the era of the Barr's Pop Man driving his flatbed truck down the street once a week selling glass bottles of fizzy pop. My mam used to buy seven bottles, one for each day until he came back around. Still got all my own teehee and my insides appear to be working fine grin

IguanaTail Fri 12-Feb-16 18:38:01

I can't believe how appalled people are about a fizzy drink at a disco!
