To say there's nothing remotely funny about being knocked to the ground by a dog

While walking on the beach with DH and our own dog, (which was on a lead at that time) I was aware of this crazy spaniel who was charging all over the place (as spaniels tend to do), he'd already been up and greeted our dog but they didn't have a proper play as ours was then on the lead because we were getting near to the beach's exit. A few minutes later I all of a sudden felt a huge blow to the back of my knees, I just fell to the ground in a heap. The crazy spaniel then stood over me trying to lick my face. DH was trying to pull me up but I literally just couldn't move straight away. Anyway the spaniels owner came along saying sorry but laughing at the same time.

I really didn't think it was funny, DH thought I was exaggerating with my inability to get straight up,

Not funny at all, I wouldn't tolerate my own dogs pushing me over from being over bouncy let alone someone else's..

I think laughing when your dog might have injured someone is inexcusable. Awful person.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I would have laughed too Blush. I laughed until I cried when my friend was taken out by her own rottie and my mutt tried to be helpful by sitting on her.

My other friend laughed hysterically when I was taken out by her dog and my mutt play fighting and bowling into me. I laughed too, despite a twisted knee that took 2 weeks to heal.

I'm sorry, I'm sure you are unhappy with this reply, but some people can't help but laugh - I'm one of them, and it sounds like your DH is too.

When I was three a dog did that to me and started a phobia that lasted about 30 years - oh how funny.

Yanbu at all. I'm a dog owner too and would be horrified and so apologetic if either of my dogs did something like that to someone.

Laughing was probably an inappropriate reaction of course, but sometimes you just can't help what you do. She may have laughed because she was nervous, or just trying to lighten up the situation. Se may have laughed because you looked funny falling over. If you have ever laughed when watching someone fall over (You've Been Framed, online videos) then I'm sure you know.

"I'm sure this woman thought I was being soft" - Did you make it clear to the woman that you had hurt yourself and that you didn't find her laughing appropriate, or did you just pull a face say it's alright and complain to your DH afterwards?

Sometimes you don't get want you want (her taking it seriously and showing concern) without saying something...

But eve that was your friend. Not a complete stranger.

Yanbu. I was knocked over by a collie once; it ran straight into my knee and I couldn't walk for several days. The owner was very apologetic though.

As a dog owner myself I feel furious at people like this woman.

Id be raging-that's assault.

Dogs should be on leads if they can't behave properly

It's funny when it's someone else, or on You've Been Framed, but less funny when it's you and you weren't even knocked over by your own dog.

Of course it's funny.

Have you never seen You've Been Framed?

You'll be telling us next that a hamster falling out of its wheel isn't funny!

If my dog did that I'd be mortified and really apologetic, certainly wouldn't be laughing.
My mums friend died after being knocked down on a beach by a dog, she hit her head on the sand and died later that evening.
It was desperately sad and has made me really vigilant of my dog when out walking.

The woman must have been aware I was in distress. DH trying to get me up, me saying, "I can't, it's my leg", I wasn't lying there quietly, it was all so sudden, but it was very evident I was upset, .

I think if you hadn't hurt yourself, it would have been funny - that's normally how I work!

I think that there are some times when seeing someone get knocked over by a dog is funny (like LtDallas telling her story above)

I do not think that your experience was funny at all.

YANBU. She should have been mortified, helped you up, apologised and put her bloody dog on a lead.

A German Shepherd off the lead once ran up to then 2yo DS and licked his face. The owner thought it was funny "Oh he must think he's one of my grandchildren, ha!ha!ha!"

We couldn't see the joke.

People who laugh at other people falling / being knocked over are a special kind of idiot, especially if someone they are in charge of causes the accident. What if you'd had arthritis or something? YANBU.

And by the way, I don't find You've Been Framed funny at all. Why is someone falling over and hurting themselves funny? How pathetic.

The dog was one of those really solid springer spaniels. It literally knocked the breath out of me. Very fortunate I landed on sand I suppose, but I fell very heavily. I genuinely thought I'd seriously damaged my knee. I was limping for a good while afterwards.

If it were my dog I would have been mortified that they knocked a stranger over and would have rushed up profusely apologising!

It might have been a nervous reaction rather than genuine mirth; I would like to think so anyway. I hope you're ok.

Surely this depends on context? Do you think everyone who likes slapstick comedy is an idiot? And what about Del boy falling through the bar?
Having said that, when someone's actually hurt/embarassed/upset any possible amusement rightly dries up pretty damn quick.
