AIBU?

To think some people must camp in Asda on a Saturday night?

This has been puzzling me all day.

Went to Asda this morning - which opens at 10am (I double checked before posting this). I got there at 10.05am, thinking it'll be empty. Silly deluded little me.

The car park was heaving - although I did manage to get a P&C space (sightings of free spaces in my local Asda are less than frequent than sightings of Shergar and Lord Lucan, so this was very good news). People were actually coming out as I was going in with full trollies of bagged up shopping!! How the bloody hell have they managed to do a full shop and pay for it in 5 minutes?!

I've thought about it and it can only be one of the following:

  1. They camp overnight on the Saturday, do their shopping then and wait by the tills to open at 10am
  2. They have a Bernard's Watch
  3. They are magical
  4. This is actually normal and I'm Faffy McFafferson

If you are a 5-minute speed shopper come forward and tell me how you do it!

My Asda is 11-5 on a Sunday but opens for browsing aka filling the trolley and queuing at the till half an hour before.

Plenty of shops open early for 'browsing' and open the tills at the official opening time.

My local Tesco (and IKea) opens early for "browsing" before the checkouts open (?)

Are you sure the store doesn't open the doors at 09.30 and just not allow anyone through the checkouts until 10.00. Think our Tesco store used to do this - not sure if it still does as I don't shop there any more.

Yes, most open 30 minutes before the stated time, and checkouts open at 10 of whatever.

In our asda the tills open at 10am but you can go in and do your shopping from 9.30 - you just can´t pay for it till 10

Click and Collect?

Report

Ooh could be the browsing although the website says 10am so maybe it's a hidden secret! And there's a drive-through click and collect.

I'm a bit disappointed there's not a better more fun answer Grin

What a faff Sunday opening hours seem.

Everything is normal up here in Scotland!

I didn't realize there was such a thing as browsing time.

Fine.

People get into the shop at 10am, do the magic breakdance and blow their rainbow whistles to summon the time-traveling unicorns. The shoppers convey their shopping lists to the unicorns through the medium of interpretive dance; unicorns then spend two minutes charging madly around the shop gathering all required items (probably spiking them on their horns or something, I don't know). Unicorns then nip behind the tills, ring up all the purchases in a trice, and the shoppers are back out in the car park with a week's worth of gin and Pop Tarts by five past.

I hope this is fun enough for you OP, as I've got nothing better, not at this time of night Grin

Asdas open 30 mins to an hour beforehand for browsing.

People run round like loons and are often at the tills with a full trolley for 5 to.

I can't tell you how many times over the years my husband or I have rushed out at 2am to get ibuprofen or cough medicine or something for a sick kid. Thank goodness for those 24 hour stores.

Roll on 24 hours if the retailer wants it. DC and co propose allowing councils to extend hours - but with the option of allowing it only for part of their districts, which is absurd. Imagine the congestion as people move from Place A where the council dies not allow shops to open to Place B where it does.

And of course online is 24/7 and not even the busiest of busybodies has suggested stopping that. Yet.
