AIBU?

To name my child after a celebrity?

It wouldn't be one of those obvious celebrity names, but I suppose the name has only really grown on me because of that celebrity... I suppose it isn't exactly a celebrity, more like a film name - this isn't it, but think Harry Potter and because they are obsessed with the films/books, they name their son Harry

I wouldn't - very dating, in my view. I wouldn't have wanted to be named after whoever was famous in the early '70s

It depends on the name.

Kanye, no.

You know you'll have to give us the name before we can answer properly Grin

Is it Bilbo?

It's not a special name, I suppose quite popular... Quite current too, would be Elliot and then William for the middle

We need to know the name.

Ds2 was named after my favourite ever dog. Luckily the dog's name was Harry.

Elliot is fine, I think. Hagrid not so much..Although they'd probably be the only Hagrid in their school!

My friend has an Elliot op, he was named after Billy Elliot the musical.
Its a nice name

As long as it's Harry after the boy wizard, and not Harry after the curly haired boy from One Direction.

Tell us the name! Is it Spongebob?

Go for it. Smile

No one is ever going to make the association between billy Elliot and Elliot William so it's fine

Names like miley though.... Just no

Topsy34 · 07/02/2016 19:02

I wouldn't even realise it was from that unless you pointed it out

Report
CalleighDoodle · 07/02/2016 19:02

I like the name miley.

That's not after a celebrity, though. It's names from a show. I don't think the names sound right that way round, as it happens.

It's no so much them noticing more so the "oh, who's William after? How did you think of the name" and there's me with my
Lousy answer 😂

Hermione? Ginny? Benedict? Kim? Perrie? Brooklyn? Cruz?

The only answer is "it depends but as long as you like it doesn't matter"

I wouldn't in a million years link it to being a 'celeb name', I like the name Elliot.
And realistically, how often does anyone use their middle names?

BikeRunSki · 07/02/2016 19:04

That's fine. I am named after the lead character in my dad's favourite book. Much the same thing. Elliot and William are not that distinctive that they point to 1 person.
