Went a local place today that has craft stalls, a food shop, petting farm etc. Also there is a cafe- reason I went to take a friend for lunch.

Had lunch, and friend insisted on paying. Eventually after a debate she paid and I left a 15% tip.

Friend said she never tips in cafes, only restaurants

I was a bit Hmm

Who is the weirdo?

I never tip anywhere and I definitely wouldn't in a cafe

If the service was good then yes, I'd tip (probably around 10-15%). Same goes everywhere with table service.

if it's good service, and table service, then yes I do

Do people really tip in cafes?!! I've never heard of this before. Obviosuly I've come across as a tight bugger my whole life to cafe owners! .....still I'm not going to start now. I only tip in restaurants dependant on service , although most of the time it's good and I leave 10%

I do if its table service. Same as a restaurant to me personally

Always tip anywhere that has table service. Especially if it's a young person.

I usually only tip evening meals. I'd be broke if I tipped in cafes.

I tip 15% anywhere where I've been served and the service is good. But often in cafes you've pretty much served yourself so I wouldn't in those circumstances

I do, but I'm an American - I tip everywhere.

I always tip as a rule. A minimum of 10% but usually more. Only if the service is very bad or rude would I not tip. The % I decide on depends on the standard of service and, importantly I think, the business model of staff pay and tips distribution.

I am not an automatic tipper and my default is not to tip. To me there are no set rules to distinguish beween cafes or restaurants and tips, if I've had great service I will tip. Sometimes it's been as a result of as little as a short fun conversation in a coffee shop, other times we've been in a restaurant and kids have spilt drinks causing extra work.

If booking for a large group, with table service, I will organise a proper tip because I pity any waiting staff trying to keep up with a table of 15 +

Every day cafe with expected oevel of service I don't tip.

No, I don't. Tipping definitely not expected anywhere here (Northern UK). If you do, it's obviously appreciated, but in no way expected!
I'd hate to live somewhere so grabby that it was mandatory.
I hate the whole culture of tipping as it is, it's just so weird when you stop and think about it.
Why give extra money for a job done in certain roles but not others?
So strange how some jobs expect you to top up their wages but others don't.

Always. Anywhere. If the service is good. Maybe because I was a waitress all through school and uni?

If there's been table service and it's been nice table service then I'll tip. Otherwise no.

If table service, I'll always tip 10% or more. Was a waitress for years as a student - the tippers always made a long hard day (some days 10 hours on your feet with only a quick lunch break to sit down) that little bit better - and more than made up for the inevitable awkward / just plain horrible customers!

IME staff in cafe's aren't usually allowed to accept tips. I've worked in cafes before and we weren't allowed to accept tips in any of them. If someone tried to tip us we either had to refuse to accept the tip or if we couldn't do that we had to put the money in the charity box (if there was one) or the till. We certainly weren't allowed to keep it for ourselves.

No as they are usually way overpriced in the first instance.

I'm with kryptonite on this one. I very rarely tip. I don't understand why some roles expect it and others don't and yes I have worked as a waitress where I got tips. Still don't get it.

If I'm being served I tip. Cafe lunch that say came to £12.30, I'd leave £14.

I don't tip unless I'm part of a group, or unless it has been especially good. I've been a waitress. Still don't see it as a must. Never do it in a cafe.

If it's staffed by workers, then I tip.

There are a few local Cafés that are owned and the owners and their family members do the serving. These are very successful businesses and the flats above are rented out, so I know I've got a lot less money than them.
