to think a mum at my dcs school is not above everybody else and should have to abide by rules like the rest of us.

Nothing is being done about it.

A few weeks age a school mum was hit by this lady in her car- the driver was looking down, music blaring and she was lighting a fag, she clipped a woman who was waiting to get into her car- dragging her down the road for a few meters when she then fell to the side of the road. The driver panicked and drove off returning about ten minutes later. Myself and some other parents helped the woman who was hit and said we would be witnesses. The hit lady then had a very heated conversation with the driver.

Turns out the lady was pleading with the other because she had no insurance and explained that's why she drove off.

The mum is driving recklessly still and has not been stopped. I have reported her to the police and then have said they will get a PCSO to come down to the school and still nothing. Other parents have complained to the school who in turn have said it is not a school matter so they cannot become involved.

Is there any further I can take this? I'm bloody cross, what if she hits a child next time? There is a rumour that is unsubstantiated that this lady does not even have a licence. If I did this I'd not get away with it. I pay tax, insurance, to service my car.

It isn't a school matter, its a police matter.

That's horrific.

I would urge the woman who got hit to go to the police. This woman needs to be stopped before she hits someone else.

How is a parent driving recklessly a school matter? It's not. It's a police matter but likley the woman she hit needs to make a complaint.

It's a criminal matter. Nothing to do with the school.

I'm gobsmaked the police were not called to the scene when it happened.

I have become friends with the lady who was hit in recent weeks and she said she felt really sorry for the lady, who was crying at the time. She laid it on think about not being able to get her children to school any other way. The hit lady bought it and feels very foolish now.
I'm sorry if my post was written badly. I'm not a good orator at the best of times and especially not today.

Because I was helping the hit lady who was Arse flat on the floor and telling the other dads to drag her stuff off the road and give me a jacket to put u see her head. She was fine, very bruised and upset but she got up and we helped her to my car. Then uninsured driver woman was there and had come back . It happened really quickly

I told the police she'd already knocked someone over. Nothing has been done.

Why would they need to go to the school? Did you give them the reg number?

There was you and several other parents, you could have made a phone call.
I suspect you are actually fuming at yourself; an uninsured dangerous driver is still on the road when you could have called the police and done something about it. And you didn't, and neither did anyone else.
That is shocking.

Keep reporting to the police. Insurance isn't just about repairing cars...if the lady who was knocked down had been seriously injured, to the point of being unable to work again, it's the insurance company which has to compensate her-drastic I know, but uninsured drivers are almost up there with drink drivers.

If she doesn't have insurance, how likely is she to have an MOT, her vehicle may not be safe and she's transporting children in it?

I'm not being a drama queen, but I deal with uninsured drivers in my work life and it gives me great pleasure to see them taken off the road.

The only caveat I'd say is that if police APPEAR to have not done anything, then maybe the accident has given her enough of a fright to make her get insurance, so there's nothing for the police to do about it

All you can do is try and encourage the lady who has been hit to report it.
It could have been a child! try and make her see that she has the potential to stop a future accident that could be much worse.
Chase up your report.
That is all you can do.
I would be fuming too.

Wirral I guess they have to see her driving. No idea.
I gave them a description of the person and car.
Next day I got the reg plate then went to the government website where you check tax etc - came up saying the car hadn't been taxed since last September.

OP, is the problem that you reported it later? I don't understand why the police didn't take it more seriously tbh.

I am bloody cross with myself too- totally agree but the hit lady insisted I not call. I wish I had ignored that.

No the car to date is not taxed, if it's not taxed it's not insured and judging my the state of the bald tyres (I have photographed them) it doesn't get looked after either .

I do t know what else to do

I'm going to ring them again with the reg plate

I suspect they would need to see her driving to act. My mother reported someone who was driving without a licence, having had it removed for medical reasons. The police did nothing initially but kept an eye out for the car, and pulled the driver over fairly shortly afterwards. Hopefully they will keep an eye out for this woman too.

Ring the police again, and report the accident too.
Write down all of the pertinent information so you don't get flustered on the phone.

If she is driving past ANPR cameras without tax, insurance or MOT, she should get caught eventually.

I suppose she probably has less chance of being caught if she only drives on local not major roads.

But YANBU and it is lucky that the consequences were not more serious. People like that shouldn't be driving - the roads need our full attention, especially near schools.

I'm surprised that the Police don't seem particularly bothered that she hit a pedestrian in an uninsured car with witnesses stating she wasn't paying due care and attention. Or maybe it's just going through the system and the police haven't had time to follow it up yet?

Why would they need to see her driving with so many independent witnesses?

If you want to help the police, I'd get the details of the witnesses and pass them on if I were you.

Did you specifically tell the police that you witnessed this woman hit a pedestrian and then leave the scene of the accident? If you haven't, I think this should be your next move - leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, and even though the victim did not report it at the time, she could still do so - and if the police know what the driver did, they ought to contact the victim to ask for a statement.

If it were me - I would keep on at the police until there was some action - drivers like this are a danger to everyone else around them on the roads.

Its quite obvious the lady who was the victim has to phone and report it, will she do this now?

(Oh and dont assume she has no tax, you cant tell these days since they got rid of tax discs.)
