AIBU?

To want to know how much of your pregnancy you put on Social Media?

YouAreAWizardHarry · 01/02/2016 20:29

I'm posting here as I have a strong opinion on everything Grin but haven't ever given this any thought, and AIBU is full of strong opinions Grin

I am pregnant with DC1, and have seen a number of people mention they don't like scan pictures on FB - why?

I'm quite private on social media due to my job, but had though of putting one scan picture on, and then announcing the birth (no thousand statuses about pregnancy in between). Im also conscious of a particular friend struggling to conceive at the moment, but live over 100 miles from family so still want to share some.

How much did you share and why/why not?

None whatsoever.

I shared my 12 week scan pic and some moaning statuses towards the end. I didn't do bump pics etc but I probably posted far too many pics once I had my 2 dc's.

Sorry - why not? Because it's special and private and for people I see in person only. I didn't post scan pictures. I certainly didn't post the hospital photos I really sniff at those - should be a special family moment not broadcast.

None, announced the birth tho :)

None. I whatsapped a scan picture to anyone who asked for it. A baby is a wonderful thing, but there are lots of them about. I don't think anyone can honestly say they don't get a bit eyerolly when another scan picture/bump picture/'humourous' pregnancy tshirt picture/'tasteful' arm across the boobs with bump out picture comes up in the news feed.

No photos, but some statuses and anecdotes. No particular reason why not - I don't really share much on social media anyway.

I don't believe in the whole "if I put images of my child online pedos will steal them" line of thinking, but I also don't believe in putting any naked / embarrassing photos online either.

I also don't believe in not posting to protect those trying to conceive. That opens a massive can of worms as to what you can't say in case it upsets somebody.

That's the extent of my views on social media Grin

No scan pictures, just an announcement at 26 weeks for people who didn't know. No further mentions of it but I will post a birth announcement. I suffered with infertility and have had multiple miscarriages and know of others in the same situation.

Nothing. Didn't even mention it. Put some pictures up when he was a few weeks old. People were quite surprised!

I posted scan pictures and probably a few bump pictures. I can do what I like on my own FB page. If people don't like it they can hide me. But then I only have actual, proper friends and family on there, with just a tiny handful of acquaintances.

I put up my 12 weeks scan pic as an announcement and the odd post relating to pregnancy over the remaining 6 months. I do post on Facebook quite a lot though in general.
I didn't post any bump pics though!

None. And use social media daily (a lot Blush) I announced the birth though.

Not very much, it wasn't mentioned in any way until I was full term. I was conscious that should anything go wrong at any point, I didn't want 200+ people to know.

I know someone who manages to relate EVERY SINGLE post several times a day to their pregnancy. Tedious

Thanks everyone Grin I've never given this any thought and wanted to check I wasn't being a knob.

Sorry why/why not sounded like a quiz Blush

I'm a sharer of a reasonable amount on social media, but have no desire to put up scan photo. Live 6,000 miles away from friends and family and going to tell family privately at 20 weeks and post birth announcement when he/she arrives.
I think people definitely eye roll at scan photos and say things like "didn't want to see your uterus when I was tucking into lunch"

The only social media I have is LinkedIn. Not sure scan pictures would be appropriate!

Actually... I probably linked to my birth story and pics on my website too. Shameless.

I didn't put anything up and then got in trouble with my distant cousins when they saw a pic of me with an obvious bump at 7 months pg! They were upset I hadn't put anything on FB to let them know - I didn't realise they were that interested?!

DH announced birth and we occasionally share pics of DC now though. Mainly because I find it funny and we have distant friends/relatives who we don't see now.

I put a status whining about sexist baby clothes when I was shopping and I announced the birth. Generally I only post stuff that is funny or interesting. Most people aren't interested in my pregnancy. I'll post a few pics of her now she's here if they are particularly cute or funny.

Minimal amounts with DCs 1-3 just 'I'm pregnant' then 'baby is here' nothing whatsoever with DC4 because I deactivated. I did post some bump pics on my Instagram but that's because most of the people I follow & who follow me have DCs the same age as mine/were expecting around the same time.

I didn't mention it either, put pics up when he was born and got some surprised responses! Have done the same this time. I just don't really like it, possibly because I've had some real oversharers on my Facebook who post daily about their pregnancies and I don't want people to think I'm like that!

With first I think I put something about all being well at 20 week scan.

With second I made a passing reference to double buggies and so was outed from there.

Both births announced with photos
