Christmas is ruined - school holidays

Just been checking the school holiday calendar for next year. Christmas is awful.

Break up on 23rd Dec, not back in school till 9th Jan. I'm screwed, first week of Jan is always busy at work.

What idiot thought this was a good idea?

by the way sorry for starting a Christmas thread in January

Great if you want a family Christmas at home and go skiing though misses the point

we break up on the 20th and go back on the 4th!

When do they normally go back? That's standard dates in Scotland.

Break up on 20th till 3rd here

Normal dates where I'm from (Scotland). How do they usually fall?

Thinking about it, an earlier breakup would be better. Filling the days pre Xmas always much easier than the hell of January.

Where are you?

We're in South Wales and break up on 16th December and go back on January 3rd. I prefer your way tbh.

Not in Scotland - spaniels dates would be more in line with what I think is sensible.

I love it that they break up late this year. We finished on the 18th in 2015 and it was far too early.

Urgh, I would hate to break up on 23rd dec....what about all the lovely pre Xmas excitement - visiting family, panto, Xmas films, walking around seeing the lights. How can they think finishing on Xmas Eve Eve is a good idea! As soon as new year is done you want the kids back at school, not a week later!

Our lot will break up on the 16th and go back on the 2nd Jan. Your school's holiday sound bonkers.

Ha, I was annoyed we had it the other way round! I love breaking up late and going back late - those days pre- Christmas are painful!

I'm of a similar mid to morris hate the period after Christmas before work. It's just dull - plus I'm now screwed for childcare (dh is always busy in Jan too and I don't want to "waste" 5 days holiday on time off in first week of Jan).

Just looked on the county council website and here they break up on the 16th and the new term starts on Jan 3rd.

I'd much rather they broke up later - I hate that it's almost a week before Christmas this year - they go bananas!

Same here, and as I work in a school I am already slightly panicky about how I am going to get everything ready in time. I think I can assume there will be a lot of panic buying on Christmas Eve.

We break up on the 16th which is ludicrously early in my opinion. That's almost 10 days before actual Christmas. They're back on the 3rd.

Groovee · 31/01/2016 20:14

It was the same here last year. I wish they could finish a few days earlier.

Ours in Lancashire are finish Thursday 22nd back Monday 9th.

2nd - 6th Jan is a very odd time to fill, miserable weather and no christmassy activities.

Would have much preferred 16th December -2nd January.

Very hard if you are wanting to fly overseas to visit family for xmas.

Might be some cheap holiday deals though if rest of uk is back 2nd or 3rd!
