AIBU?

to have an irrational hatred of caravans?

I despise caravans.
With. A. Passion!

I've had 3 caravan holidays.

The first I was about 11 and my mum spent most nights getting drunk on diamond whites, and I remember having to walk back to the caravan on my own and my step brother was really creepy.

The second I was about 13 and my dad had his friends stay with us and all they did was shag and shake the caravan from side to side.

The third was a couple of years ago and all I could see everywhere were parents drinking while the kids were entertained by the newly pubescent redcoat wannabes magicians etc.

I just HATE it!
I'm totally stuck up not stuck up, honestly. I love roughing it in a field in a tent, or 5 star all inclusive. But caravans, even the word "caravan" strikes fear into my very soul!

So, I came home tonight, and hubby says, DS1 has been invited to go on tour with us and his football team..... for the weekend....... in a fucking caravan.

So..... AIBU or are there other people out there who HATE the rickety gull infested sheds?

Detest them. Would rather spend a week locked in my own bathroom.

I've only had 2 caravan experiences and they were both bloody grim. I'd rather be at home, basically.

I love them. If I won squillions on the lottery I would still have one.

In my own caravan, on a quiet site...bliss. On any site with a clubhouse... horror.

Yes, I had a bit of a nostalgia moment with Diamond White :o. The last time I drank Diamond White it ended with me singing bad karaoke on an office outing. It might have made the caravan stay better, though.

Oooh, I love my caravan. I grew up caravanning and had a blast. As soon as we could afford it we got one for our own family.

Best family time ever. Kids out and about all day on their bikes while I 'supervise' drink wine. Then super cosy nights in drinking more wine watching DVDs.

DH loves them due to fond childhood memories. We tried to recreate these when DD was a baby. Same caravan park as he went to as a child. It rained, the area was really run down and I was stuck in a cramped, smelly tin can with a very small child AND my PILs... He's lucky I didn't take the car and leave him to it. Never again.

The thing I don't get is when people think they are a cheap option. My in laws spend fecking thousands on theirs, and then more to kit the thing out, and then they had this remote control thing installed on it because it was such a nightmare to get out of the drive, and then it costs almost as much to hook it up per night as a B&B with less comforts, and you get about 10mpg out of your car whenever you take it anywhere. Fine, if you really LIKE staying in a tin box in a field. But don't try to tell me it's a cheap holiday.

Yabu.

I love the caravan Dd and I visit every year.

Quiet site. Dog friendly. Heating. Power shower. Sky tv. Sea 2 mins walk away. Oyster catchers. Bliss.

Actually I'll give you that caboodle. I love our caravan. But would never go anywhere with a club house. Shudder. CL's are the way to go, preferably with a donkey or two .

Are you talking of touring caravans? Please don't blame the innocent MDF for your family's oddities. Smile

No, I'm talking about static caravans. I don't think I'd mind one of those RVs though. Some of those cost more than my house look stunning.

The whole clubhouse entertainment scares me too. The bingo, the competitions where you have to be the first to "get someone's bra" and bring it back to the stage. It's just terrifying.

I love caravan holidays. I don't like massive, noisy sites but caravan holidays can be fantastic!

Dd once went to stay with a friend in their caravan and came back to our caravan raving about the clubhouse but then stopped, looked at me and said 'but you would have hated it mum'.

This thread title made me think of the father ted episode in the caravan. Sums it up perfectly
